Good. Now we don't have to suffer through anymore crappy Final Fantasy games (those after 7)
Wait, aren't they making the new Deus Ex?

NOOOOOOO!!!
I'm only really worried about the half of the company that's still Enix...
This is why I hate Digg!

DEUS EX is still coming out:
"We therefore have decided to spend additional time to further polish our upcoming game, DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION™, resulting in a shift in release timing from our prior plan of the current fiscal year to next fiscal year."
Dear SE,
My money is currently waiting to be put in to your hands. Waiting for Xenogears, Einhander, Vagrant Story, Front Mission 3, and the rumored FF7 remake which would just print money.
Just sayin, since it seems like your hurting for money and your decision making is horrible, at best.
Woot woot, this would be the best news ever in the history of the gaming industry.
With any hope Enix will break away(the real ENIX members, no evil square scum allowed),letting square completely die off, then go back to making the great ENIX games we all knew, and loved.
How can such a massive game company make the foolish mistake of putting all their eggs in one basket?
There are a few idiots out there who are being awfully reactionary about this.
They are facing some STAGGERING losses. This much is true. But they also had their best year in 2009. The Square war machine is going to keep on trucking in some form or another, regardless of these recent failures.
I don't really want to see Square die...but I would like to see them change out of their current form. There are plenty of simple projects they could undertake in an effort to bring in the cash, as others have mentioned here. They just kind of seem to be all over the place with their franchises lately, it would be nice to see them go back to the roots. A Front Mission action game? Another MMO? An "on-rails" Final Fantasy title? What were they thinking? And where is my next gen FF Tactics at? Let's see a FF Collection for the DS featuring three or four of the top titles. Let's see an FF7 remake. They seem to have been wasting so much resources.
It would behoove them to adopt a micro-transaction model, and make FFXIV free, at the VERY least. D&D Online seems to have benefitted a lot from such a system. I don't particularly dislike Square, but I definitely have not had much of an interest in any of their recent titles. They had a hit in my opinion with FF12, regardless of the negative critical feedback from diehard fans of the series. Trying to reinvent the franchise with each new iteration is a blunder, in my opinion; from FF1 to FF10 basically, barring minor changes and the like with the games sub systems etc, they had a good thing going and were selling more than enough to get by.
Anyways, misguided rant. I like Enix, but I would feel sad to see a company with a history like Square fade into the wood work. Only the most jaded, disgruntled gaming cynic can get behind something like that, I think.
This is what they get for not making Einhander II.
Serves the bastards right.
I don't they're going anywhere anytime soon.Didn't FFXIII do well or was that the last fiscal year.
Maybe this is what it takes, to get Square to put together a FFVII remake. The fans have been more than vocal about getting this title done. I have no doubts it would be a cash-cow for them.
I don't understand why FFVII needs a remake. The game is quite playable on modern systems. I would prefer for S-E to work on a new game, and stop re-re-re-releasing every single FF under the sun every time the company coffers look a little low.
Cockroaches die hard. This is true of most corporations as well. Does anybody seriously think Square-Enix will tank with this one release? I don't believe it for a second. Just like Sega, they will survive somehow and keep pumping out crap and re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re releasing decade old games everyone and his/her dog has played for what feels like centuries.
Until we see an actual bankruptcy report, from a credible source, I think it's safe to say this staggering loss is merely just a pothole in the road for our virtually undying Square-Enix.
This is excellent and was extremely urgent for the gaming world. This demonstrates in much ways that final fantasy magic was maintained in most way by critical people as the original creator and ff7 and 8 sound creator, after the lads parted the company just spent the cash made by the hits.
The quicker bad quality dies, the better.
Wasn't the name Final Fantasy picked in the first place because they thought they were going under at the time? Irony?
they'll probably be okay, just a less profitable year than last year, they aren't in debt as far as I know. To hell with a FFVII remake, I just want another Chrono Game.
and personally I think FFXII and FFIX were the best by far out of the series
If they want to make some cash then why don't they officially start translating all of those RPG's for the PSX and SNES that never saw release here and start putting them on the Wii VC. It would be easy revenue and it'd make me happy.
It is a no brainer, if your titles suck you remake a hit past, it might be late for square to revive ff7 but time will tell, but one thing is for sure, no ff from now on matters, specially for true classic ff fans.
Lol, seems like there's not a ton of Final Fantasy fans here at Sega-16.
Anyway, this news really has nothing to do with response to the Final Fantasy series. FFXIII actually sold in massive numbers, and was a huge hit for SE, as was Dragon Quest IX... however, both of those titles contributed to their previous fiscal year (which, BTW, was a record year for SE). They really haven't put much of anything out this year, other than the poorly-received PC version of FFXIV, which hardly counts as a "proper" Final Fantasy. If they can get the kinks worked out of FFXIV in a timely manner, and put out the PS3 version (along with FF Versus XIII and the new Deus Ex), their bottom line next year is bound to look much better.
Personally, I hate MMOs, so I really have little interest in how FFXIV turns out, but I at least have the good sense to know that a company as massive as SE going bust would most definitely NOT be a good thing for the gaming industry.
FFXIII success was based solely on expectations, in short; if you create a hit of anything, audience is immediately satisfied and expects only the best from you, square rested in its laurels and now circumstances demand a payment from them, ¿Will this cost them their existence as a gaming company? possibly yes since its existence has to do with the ff series mostly.
I'm not really a Square-Enix fan...but I agree that some digital reissues would be a good idea...I think they have some good games on Japanese PSN for instance, that where also released in the US years ago, but they are not on PSN...how about putting them on PSN or something? I'm sure you'd get some money from that.
cant believe this but ff13 was fucking awful
I would not expect this Japanese Companys are Idiots when it comes to this. Games like Ein Hander,Parasites Eve 1 ETC never reached PAL areas but they will not even put those games up on any European PSN store ever even the UK one :daze:.
Konami a While back Removed the Original PS1 Track and Field and Bishi Bashi Special (That was only found on European PSN stores along with the game having no Americian version )completly from the PSN store with no given reason.
A few years back they said it was Impossible to make a 3D Update of ff5 or ff6 on DS saying it could not handle it though Kingdom Hearts 358/2Days make this just look like a excuse.
Square seem to treat their Nintendo fans like morons too. Cystal Defenders was a 3 part game on Wii Ware and cost nearly 3 times as much as the Xbla version that had all parts for just $10.
Lets hope we never see crappy 3D graphic whore remakes of these greats, I don't know why you sound like you would want that.
PS. Like others have said in this thread, why hasn't Square remade/ported FF7, It's a no brainer, so even Square should've done so by now.
I do not really care for 3D remakes unless it really ads somthing extra or they is no way I can access the Original Versions but you think if they did a 3D remake of 3 and 4 they would for the last two 16 bit titles.Along with the fact the GBA remakes are unplayable to DSI owners as well.
As for a FF7 remake they have said a few times they do not think they have enouth money to make a Remake up to what they want it to be like. So instead they just have made tons of FF7 spinoff games instead.
Like I said in this thread, who the hell needs a remake of Final Fantasy VII? It's a good game, sure, but it's certainly not their best and it's perfectly playable on a PS3 (or PSP, or PS2, or PSX, or PC...). I would much rather S-E spend their time on something new than something millions of people have played already, countless times.
I don't get the fascination with remaking games or movies. Leave the "classics" alone, and let's see some real creativity.
I got a delivery for this thread

No, this is what they get for putting Dragon Quest IX on a fucking portable. Karma, meet ass!
Read the original 1up article. You don't think a 91% drop in forecast earnings is staggering? to go from an estimated $141 million to $11 million seems pretty staggering to me.
Oh ok.
Well that's Square for you, they waited forever to release FF 5 outside of Japan, even though they were near their peek at that time. Also don't even get me started about the JP FF 2, and 3. Then there's games that they made in the past outside of the FF series, that they still haven't bought over, yet they keep remaking the same 2 games.
As for their FF7 remake excuse, that's complete BS, everyone knows it, and I doubt they believe the **** their spouting either. FF7 is still considered cutting edge today(graphic wise anyway), so even from a graphics stand point, they're just coming up with BS excuses, because they would be actually expected to put effort into gameplay.
Perhaps "clean" up the graphics slightly, add a item/things to do collection list, and not needed, but perhaps a bonus dungeon/side quests, then call it a day.
FF7 is one of the better games ever made, there's not much you can really do to it to make it noticeably better(the only thing that sucked was the "main story", the side stories were pretty good, that's it, so there Isn't much to improve on to begin with).
Hell if they released an exact port/remake, I'm pretty sure everyone would love it, so yea Square is full of it as usual.
Oddly enough, Dragon Quest IX was SE's second biggest seller during the previous fiscal year, coming in just behind FFXIII. It was also quite an excellent game... better than FFXIII in many ways (and I actually really enjoyed FFXIII, despite all the whining "fans" who just seem to want SE to release FFVII every year with better graphics and a new roman numeral).
I didn't like DQ VII as much as VIII. It took too long to get going and didn't hook me like VIII did. I haven't played VI though.
