that would be pretty cool. Someone mentioned earlier that they could make a game like Rez with scaling sprites and FMV backgrounds.

I'd make a new Sonic game.
I'd make Doom 4 which would be faithful to the classics.
SVP chip powered games! Virtua Fighter 2 (no sprites!), Sega Rally, Panzer Dragoon, etc... It would have been a lot cheaper to mass produce the chips by this time! Dream on...
My RPG game for Sega Genesis would be as follows:
It would be set on a planet not so different from our own. The planet is a life raft for two different species who crashed there thousands of years ago. One species is technologically advanced and powerful, while the other remains exiled to the huge forests of the planet. The two species have lived for many years in uneasy peace. When the player begins the game the planet and its inhabitants are going through drastic changes. Power sources are beginning to fail, animals are becoming violent, and strange underground caverns are opening up. The player would choose between one of the two races. Both characters would be young men running away from home for various reasons. Initially their stories would be different, but eventually their tales would cross.
My game would feature the following:
Unexpected twists and evolving story (How did these two species end up on the planet at similar times? What are the ruins? What happened to the planets original inhabitants? Why the power outs/agitated animals?)
Classic/Cliche: The story would be based on the classic formula of a quest, and would borrow many story elements from classic stories while evolving them into something unique.
Evolving Combat: Combat would have to remain interesting, and introduce new concepts.
This writing is purposefully vague, and I have a much more detailed vision inside my head. I love games that embrace cliches and evolve them, so some of my influences may be obvious to some people.
A sidescrolling Sonic game with prerendered graphics like in Sonic 3D Blast.
It would have at least these things:
10 zones with 3 acts and final stage which will open up after collecting all the chaos emeralds. This stage would have one large act and a epic final boss battle.
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles playable.
Different routes in the zones for each of the characters
Sonic 2 like special stages.
Metal Sonic as rival character(Would appear every now and then to annoy you just like Knuckles in Sonic 3)
I always drew up made up Sonic and Mario games when I was younger. If I had more patience I would try making a Sonic hack, but I guess I like playing games more than making them.
Often, it's not the skills that are lacking, it's the time. I myself have too many things to work on, so things I'd love to do are still quite a ways down the to-do list.
Things I'd like to work on (may overlap with ideas others have already mentioned above):
Sonic 32X with lush prerendered graphics, not that MD graphics seen in Chaotix.
SVP game: I've got an extra VR cart and some flash memory I can use; I need to desolder the rom on the VR cart, add a ZIF socket for the flash, and then work on a library of SVP helper routines. This is actually rather high on my list to work on.
New Doom engine for 32X: Also rather high on the to-do list. This would actually make it easier for others to do Doom mods for the 32X as they would only need to work on the data, not the code.
- A Grand Theft Auto style Action/Adventure with a cyberpunk theme. It would feature a giant Metropolis in a top down perspective blended with side scrolling elements, something like Retro City Rampage.
- A Zelda style Action/Adventure with a steampunk theme, with the overworld being a mix between the traditional Zelda and Metroid style worlds. This means the dungeons would be more connected with the overworld.
- An Adventure game with a Noir theme. You are a detective in a GTA like city that takes cases in a Phoenix Wright like way.
I would make Sonic 4 and it would be so awesome Sega would make me their King.
I would make a side-scrolling open-world game with HUGE world with tons of secrets and day-night cycle. Like you are some space traveler that got stuck on an alien planet. You will explore the planet, meet some not-so-peaceful species, search for food, build your refuge, and discover the remnants and secrets of some ancient civilization. The core gameplay would be a platformer with some shooting, swimming and mining stuff.
Also I would make a Street Fighter Alpha 2 port that kicks SNES-version's ugly ass thanks to the blast processing.
I think its pretty obvious. A Knuckles Chaotix-style game... with Tikal and Chaos! Running around... collecting Chao... hell yeah!
i would make a updated mutant league football game.but would not use any madden engine.more tecmo bowl(not super).
