On my local craigslist, a person is selling a working Laseractive with the Genesis module and six laserdiscs for $150. Sadly, he doesn't know where the remote is. Should I go for it?
Oh yeah, the Laseractive is the laserdisc player that can play Genesis or Turbografx-16 games. From what I hear, it's quite rare.
I'd say is a really good price...Hopefully it comes with the Sega controller at least ...Go freggin buy it :sonic:...
Remember the LD player in the Laseractive is a cheap low-end one so make sure it works before buying it (if possible check LD playback and CD playback).
I've decided to buy it, and I've talked him down to $140. He said he just watched a movie on it and everything looks fine, so I should be okay. I'll be picking it up tomorrow, so I'll probably have an update for whoever's interested then :)
You could probably use a universal remote for it.
As far as game playing, it's not like the CD-i where you need a special controller for it. A standard Genesis controller will plug right into it.
Not a bad deal! Now you need to go and get some of those Mega LD's.
Buy it. You'll be alright without the remote.

$150 is a steal if it works.
A few years ago the replacement remote was $50. Also, the on/off button on the remote won't work with the Sega/TG-16/karaoke pack in. If he doesn't have the door for when the Sega pack isin't in the on/off won't work on the remote.
Bottom line, the remote probably won't be of much use to you so it's not that big of deal.
Alright guys, I got it. Turns out the remote is not necessary with the Sega PAC. You can just use a standard Genesis controller to control EVERYTHING.
First impressions:
The Laserdisc player is pretty good. The picture is really nice, and this particular unit has optical sound output, so all the LDs and CDs I have sound really great on it.
The Genesis part of it, however, is subpar. The sound and video quality is reminiscent of a model 2 Genesis where the music sounds scratchy, the PCM audio is low quality, and the video is blurry. If you were going to use this as your primary Genesis player, and you knew, like me, that there is better quality to be had, you would be disappointed.

is nowhere near as good as my 1st Ed. Genny, than i guess i'd be foolish to bother with one.
besides, i've this beautiful 1987/1989 CLD-3030 to take care of my LD collection,
and i like it's looks INFINITELY better than the cosmetics of the CLD-A100...

WTF! That's no way to enjoy a laserdisc player!! They are laying on the floor with a "at most" 19in TV! The player isn't even facing them, so the remote won't work that way! And there's gonna be dog hair all over those electronics! What they have no couch? No entertainment center?Quote:

obviously, with the $1300.00 MSRP the CLD-3030 originally carried,
and another $25/50+ per video disc, our family the jamesisons there couldn't afford
any more furnishings for their new house and brand-spanking new life together
than the rudimentary home entertainment system they have all haphazardly cobbled together there...
And I'm assuming laserdisc players don't have heat issues, NO you can put them right on the carpet!
