Is now the Nintendo DS, but only in America and Europe.It finally overtook the US PS2 sales and in less time too.What I find impressive is the fact that hardware that does nothing else, but play games.I never held the PS2 numbers in high regard, because the system was also a DVD player, and I knew many people that bought one just for that feature, with the DS there is only one purpose for having one, and that's playing games.Good job Nintendo.

Well, I hold the DSīnumbers in even lower regards, because Nintendo has made a great market out of getting customers to update their system. Many original DS owners then bought a DS Lite, and the same happened when the DSi came. They more than any other console manufacturer ever live from selling slight updates of the same hardware to people already having an older version.
Damn, that DS Lite really was my biggest waste of money ever.
Yet you and everybody else still bought one.

I forgot to mention in the US, soon to be world thoug.I will agree with you on the Lite and DSi, but the XL is a preferential thing.I had a lite and nothing else, if it breaks I'll get something else maybe.I think Sony and MS have done a worse job with all the hardware revisions on their consoles.As it stands I still think it's impressive.Quote:

Those types of tactics don't work on me and if the world shared my mindset, companies would have to make better products the first time around. Nintendo wouldn't pull this type of BS marketing if it wasn't for the typical customer.

Same thing as always, Nintendo being brilliant and mopping the floor with the competition simply by spending less on development and current technology = easily winning over the hearts of mindless consumers who are willing to buy anything. They didn't get me, lol... but my money isn't needed when they've got the world wrapped around their little pinky finger.
Blizzard has also adopted the same philosophy and look at them, they print their own money with WOW, and even though they took LAN out of SC2: the world still went apeshit and bought it in droves. Everyone that supported SC and War3 over the years were basically called pirates when Blizz decided to take LAN out of SC2.... how often will you buy a companies product if they outright call you a thief right before you were thinking about making the purchase? Not ever I don't imagine... but... for a game, people didn't care.
Itīs not about the graphics at all; itīs really about the gameplay. I am actually a person that still enjoys PS1-games too.
What bothers me with the DS is simplification.
Look at the RPGs; a huge selection on paper. But reduce that by the number of RPGs that have gameplay reduced to appeal to a broader audience; for example by scrapping towns and worlds you can move somewhat freely in for some pull-down menues. As my name implies Iīm a huge Suikoden-fan; yet Suikoden Tierkreis basically scraps everything that made Suikoden special in favor of the most basic RPG-gameplay possible.
If itīs not simple itīs a clone of FF Tactics & co, where you basically only jump from battle to battle.
The exceptions are the Dragon Quest- and Final Fantasy-Remakes; nice, but they kind of lose something because I have already played them on other systems.
DQ IX then, a DS-exclusive.... cool, but so easy it basically plays itself. Just so that no pyer would ever get frustrated. Whatīs the job system worth when you ctually never need to change jobs?
At least Four Heroes of Light was a nice one, and SMT4 (eventhough there was no roaming towns there either).
Zelda; completely destroyed for me by forcing the player to use the touchscreen. Even the best touchscren control canīt match the quick and responsive controls you have with d-pads, analogue sticks and buttons.
So they made the game easier all over. They sacrificed Zelda for the touchscreen.
The biggest problem in the games is when you are driving in the subway and the train is rumbling a bit so your hand shivers a bit.
Castlevania. Wow, same game as always, cool... I beat the boss and then I am asked to take out the touchpen and draw some rune or I have to fight again!? WTF? Does this add anything good to the game?
Contra 4 and Bomberman; great, classic concepts. Stupid thing is that you lose the overview with the action taking place over two screens, because of the distance between both screens. Hard to concentrate on both, the games would have been better on a single screen.
And it goes on and on like that.
On the PSP, thanks to the lack of innovative gimmicks I never have the control isues and no strange ideas on how to innovate concepts by the devs. I can play MGS like on a big console. I can play Street Fighter and all the stuff I love from console gaming. Itīs really the same stuff, but for the palm of your hand.
Mind you, I donīt have a PSP; I bought a DS because of the DQ IX announcement and my love for that series. But looking back I find that it was a mistake and eventhough the software library is much smaller, there are more titles I enjoy on PSP.

Tell you one thing I hate about the PSP is where they put the Analog stick. I don't understand why they didn't put the Analog stick where they put the D-Pad since the D-Pad is hardly ever used. Also, why no second Analog stick... wtf. Playing that Resistance retribution without a second analog stick is whack... it works, but man it would have been so much better with a second stick.

I said the DS looks to me to be about = to the N64 and it's capabilities. The PSP is obviously more powerful than the PS2 thereby automatically making the PSP 'easily' more powerful than the DS.
