Better graphics have never meant better games, modern games should have taught you that.I am also not trying to start a "pissing match"I just wanted to know if you were saying the PS1 was more powerful than the N64, because it wasn't.

The DS is easily my favorite game console.
Why?
When you take away the nostalgia of the Sega Genesis library, the awesome graphics of the PS3, the fine collection of PS2 games I have, and even a nice collection of great PS1 RPG's, it always all boils down to one thing; I can play Disgaea on my couch while my wife watches TV, and I don't have to interrupt anyone to do it. And when I get bored, I simply reset the console, and now I can play FFVI, with the DS lite GBA slot. On my couch. With NO TV.
That being said, I used to own a PSP, but I wasn't very discerning when it came to games. This was back before FF Tactics, Disgaea, Crisis Core, or a multitude of other games I may have been interested in. Back then, Any of my PSP games were HARDLY gems; so I ended up trading the console straight across for my DS lite.
NOW the game has changed, and there are quite a few PSP games it hurts me to miss, such as Cladun, Peace Walker, and a few others. I saw a PSP the other day for 129.99 which came with a copy of Gran Turismo. If my list of "games to buy" wasn't at 25 already for my other consoles, I would have totally taken the plunge. But for now, my money is on the DS. As far as graphics and sound? PSP, all the way, hands down. But those things don't matter to me very much either way.
Wow... I usually agree with your opinions n such... I had no idea you were such a JRPG whore ;)
Funny you mention playing your DS alongside your wife while she enjoys the tv... my GF likes to play LBP on her PSP while I'm on the tv playing consoles.
What, an old 2000 model?
I don't hold DS sales in high regards either, because most people who bought a ps2 only bought one, or maybe 2 once the slim came out. DS owners have gone through so many trivial versions, so those numbers are a smaller amount of people buying the same thing over and over. I bought a DS years ago and I just can't get into handheld systems at all, plus I just have a general dislike for nintendo as a company lately
Well, regardless of what people think of Nintendo today, all I gotta say is Nintendo has done a fine ass job with the Wii and DS lately. Why? Because they've finally bothered to start making new games. Sure some of them are part of existing series, but those can be just as much fun as all-new titles. Kirby's Epic Yarn currently stands as the best game on Wii in my little world. Not only because the game is good, but Nintendo actually put some care and quality into it. In recent years, it feels like Nintendo is starting to understand what made the NES and SNES days so great. Mind you, Nintendo is only starting to understand, but that's better than no understanding at all of what made decade old games so fun. Sega is a living example of when a company has zero concept of it's past successes in every way.
I somewhat agree with you Guntz, I just find it a bit pathetic that with the sheer amount of money nintendo is making off of both consoles, that they are only now starting to put any sort of effort into wii games, Kirby's Epic Yarn looks beautiful though.
But Sega on the other hand... poor Sega:(
Love the DS hate going on in this thread... People always have to hate what's popular. I call it the "Metallica"-problem. Meanwhile, over 100 million gamers don't care and Pokemon-it-up.
Me, I'm Elite Beat Agents-ing it up.
I don't think any of us really said we hate the DS, I don't at least.
The what problem? I never thought anything of their music past two albums, "Black & Ride the Lightning"... but they paled in comparison to bands like Pantera and Sepultura.
Pokemon and Metallica in the same post - dude, lay off the crack will ya :daze:
I don't hate it... but when I see their price is $30 for their standard games while Sony is only asking $20 for the majority of their games, it pisses me off.
Wtf Nintendo, your product doesn't look nearly as good and I'm sure 90% of your DS games work off of a touch screen gimmick. Same stupid mindset behind making it mandatory to use the (FUCK YOU NINTENDO!!!!!!!!!) stock Wii remote on it's side to play the new Super Mario Bros, when they could have easily made the "shake control for the high jump" a fucking button press (and before any of you cunts come in with "meh, I like the stock controller, meh... meh", you can keep that BS to yourself!!).
There's nothing wrong with being gimmicky as long as it doesn't exclude/supercede normal/typical D-Pad or Analog controls. Nintendo is guilty of this on multiple counts in a multitude of Wii games and it's simply inexcusable.
I have both a PSP and DS, and have found that I prefer the PSP overall. The relatively low cost for the games, lack of "gimmicky" controls, and yes, the graphics have made it a joy to own.
As for the DS...I think the graphics are fine, but a lot of the games don't appeal to me (I avoid all things RPG). That said, I haven't had this for very long yet (got it late November), so I'll be giving this one some time.
Also:
I agree 100%, particularly regarding SMB Wii.Quote:

Tech specs be damned! The DS has a far superior library to the PSP, and I say this as someone who owned (and sold) both handhelds. Really the worst thing about the PSP for me is that 1) all of the best content seem to be remakes of games I'd rather play on a big screen and 2) the load times are godawful. I've played some PSP games with load times that make the Sega CD's 1X CD-ROM drive look downright speedy!
Now if you wanna hack it and use it as a portable Genesis, SNES, PSX, etc., then yeah, the PSP is pretty awesome. And reading games directly off the memory stick does a lot to mitigate the load times. But I don't see much appeal otherwise.
