I love buying out old beat up carts with the cover art missing and the label destroyed and then fixing them up with custom cover art. I should post a pic of my SOR2 that I found in a flea market. It was so beat up I couldn't tell what game it was at first.
I love that too. If you're going to refurb something it doesn't hurt to go a little custom. I made a custom wild trax label for my overclocked stunt race fx cart:

It's always fun to come up with something new, that's what keeps the retro world going, instead of just copying what's already been done, take the best stuff from what's been done and add some new ideas to it.

It all depends what quality you want. First you need to design your label (I used microsoft paint because I'm retarded like that) after downloading images that you want to edit and include in your label. Then you have to work out exact measurements. Then you need to print and the quality depends on the quality of the printer as well as the paper you use. Obviously you'll want something laminated.
I'd try and find a template, that should solve the sizing and general layout issues.
I would not mind printing my own labels and stickers, but I only need a handful. I never print anything... so totally not worth my time to invest in what's needed. lol

As for advice, well you're best off getting Photoshop to make the labels (you'll need it to open my template). Alternatively you can get GIMP it's similar to photoshop and it's free.

I have some book protector clear plastic, i guess i will use that to laminate my sticker. The good part with a project like this is that if you screw up you can start over easily :)
I guess ill be using the Inkjet printer, it seems to make somewhat better color quality picture than the Laser one.

It's gimp, but they retooled the interface and the like to more closely resemble photoshop. Won't add any more functionality, but it might be better for those that are constantly looking for things where they were in PS.

I just need to make a cover for the manual too.
I did use gimp once but that was only because I wanted to make something with a transparent area and ms paint doesn't do transparency.. I get a kick out of seeing just how professional I can make something using nothing but the simplest free tools floating around.
