Because no matter what Sega does, haters gonna hate.
Looks great. I love the Special Stage music which picks up when they show the HD game, plus that music was similarly used in a very common commercial for Sonic 2 BITD.
I also love that they kept it looking abstract and unreal, rather than going for hyper-realism, like that blasted Sonic 4...
How wonderful. I never liked Sonic 2 as much as Sonic 3 and Sonic 1, but this will make me play Sonic 2 again (and maybe love it! :D)
If Sega would've done this people would've just bitched about it being a terrible rehash and they should be moving the series forward and all that. Sega is royally screwed with Sonic's broken fanbase. There's literally nothing they can do to please them.
In other news yeah I heard about this recently as well and I'm excited.
Awesome - I've been following this project off and on for a year or two, but I hadn't thought of it in a while. Good to see they're close to an Alpha release.
That's not really true. Sega just needs to start trying again and start making the Sonic games themselves instead of outsourcing them to shitty companies from buttfuck nowhere. If the new Sonic games were actually made by Sonic Team instead of DIMPS or whatever tards Sega has hired to work on their mascot then I'm sure they would be received in a much more positive fashion. The problem is Sega today isn't putting any effort into the games, they've become a third rate publisher and can't even be bothered to work on their own mascot. They're just out to make a cheap buck by riding the coattails of a once good franchise.
I thought Sonic Colors was pretty good and DIMPS did a great job on Sonic Rush and Colors DS.
It's too little too late though. The fanbase is an irreparable mess of both older and younger gamers, everybody wanting something different.
But most of the games ARE made by Sonic Team and that's half the problem since Sonic Team is a shadow of its former self. Most of their talent has moved on. The progress, at least in terms of critical success, they made on Colors shows promise though.
Please, tell me more. I'm dying to hear more of your ideas about ... what's your point again?
[edit] aw, come on, Obviously. You almost had a good point there; Sonic Team isn't one concrete set of individuals, like the A-Team. People come and go, start jobs and leave jobs, and shuffle around like businesspeople do. Sonic Team 1991 isn't Sonic Team 2011.
If Sega did this and released it as Sonic 2 HD people would probably be fine. The problem with Sonic 4 is it looks like a giant rip off of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. It has not character of its own. Throw in the broken physics and you have something not really worthy of the name Sonic 4. It should be Sonic Rush HD instead.
Oh damn, that looks great.
Sega needs to pay more attention to their fans.
All we want is an oldschool Sonic game, without Sega messing with the art style, physics, gimmicks and 10000000000000 animal friends.
This is why the Sonic Rush series came close to being as good as the old 16 bit Sonics, and all the other Sonics failed miserably.
Looks clean as can be. I love seeing projects like this being done by the community... it proves that Indie Development is the way of the future.
If anything, SEGA should wake the fuck up... they're being outprogrammed and outcoded by Indie Devs now... that's sad.
As soon as there is enough money in the Indie Gaming world, we can rest assurred that the big Dev&Pub cunting heavyweights will lose some of their muscle, and the Indie sector will grow by leaps and bounds from that point on.
thks for the post, OP
Ooh, I'm gonna have fun with this! Looks pretty damn good. *waits patiently for Alpha release*
Just one thing: I hope Sonic 2 HD will have the option to use Sonic 2's original soundtrack. I'm not fond of any remixes.
