The point: DIMPS sucks giant donkey cock. There clear enough. If you want to know more play the Sonic Rush games on DS or Sonic 4 or better yet Sonic Unleashed. And yeah, I should've specified - original, or semi original Sonic Team. Though honestly I don't know how they managed to screw up a 2D platformer. Had they just copied the movement/control mechanics from the original Sonic Games, the DS Sonics and S4 would've been significantly better. Nintendo did it just fine with New Super Mario Bros. the games are new and innovative but retain the feel of the originals.

Sonic Rush is acceptable, it's a 5/10 game, maybe 6/10 max. The look is there, but the gameplay mechanics are sloppy, the stage layouts are amateurish and you can tell the game was rushed to get it out on the market fast, make money from it and forget it until a sequel is made. It's borerdline shovelware Both the Sonic Rush games and Sonic 4 paly like beta test releases not actual finished products.

I haven't tried Sonic Colors yet, so I won't judge that one at this time, the idea behind it seems cool, but I'm a little wary about what the controls are like. I'll give it a shot at some point though.

Becasue Sega is run by a complete group of idiots. There is no reason that Sonic 2HD alongside SoR Remake can't be bought out and turned in DL content for all of these systems.

Ditto, the people developing the above, plus Sonic Fan Remix should be officially involved with Sega.

The whole fanbase division problem could be solved if they had 2 lines of products like they're trying to do: one classic gaming style and one innovative/experimental one. The only problem is the people that develop for them now put out a poor quality product instead of the polished, high-end poroducts they should be creating to not only stay competitive but to maintain their level of quality that is expected by long-time fans.

I thought that was my point but I guess it was poorly worded. That the modern Sonic Team isn't really the Sonic Team djshok wants to make his Sonic games.

I sort of get his point. It's not about who develops it though, Sonic Team is just a name and it in no way reflects the legendary development house of the 90's, but rather that Sonic hasn't had a AAA status game in some time and that's the main problem. If they really sunk the time and money into it they could make an incredible game but since that costs time and money and is a risk when they can just as easily make money with what they've been doing they probably won't do it.

To be honest, indie development really isn't the way of the future, as it's the way it's been done for a very long time. A few people make a game, it gets attention, they make another game or a sequel, get bought/hired by a big company or make their own company that gets big, make some games under that label, some folks are fired or quit, those people start another little company, and the wheels on the bus go round and round.

It's just that now with the likes of EA and Activision buying up smaller companies like a fat rich kid in a candy store, the small groups of game makers are getting more attention for a couple of big reasons. One, is that they're away from the established IPs and genres that the big game makers like to whore out (though the indie scene is getting a few established whored out genres of its own now), and so provide variety (until everyone else tries to make their version of a game type that did well). And two, with things like Steam, Impulse, Live and all that out there, it makes getting their product published that much easier than it used to be. Those two things alone make it so the little guy can get more attention without a big label banner being plastered over their small company's name.

Anyway, it's basically the same setup in a different age from what I've seen. For every "indie" game like Torchlight and Shatter that goes on to be a success, there are the many more indie and small company games that bomb badly, and that company's never heard from again... just like the old days.





And now for something completely different...

Sonic 2HD looks promising. Hope it gets finished.

Here's an idea: have parallel launch dates for 2 (possibly 3) drastically different games to cater to different segments!

I feel what they really need to do is kill the franchise for a while before making a real AAA effort with a comeback game.

They won't do this though because Sonic is still making them money.

Still, Colors was a step in the right direction in my opinion.

The HD graphics look good enough in a smaller youtube window. I still don't really like how it looks in super high resolutions, I guess it has to do with the original game art being made as pixel art.

I think it's the same with those smoothed out filters in emulators. Some games, like Aladdin or Monster World IV scale really well with the filters, but I don't think the Sonic games do.

I know what you mean. Games like Aladdin are designed to look cartoony so it looks nice with the smooth filters. Stuff like Sonic just look wrong because they're not what I expect.

Give the fans Sonic 4, and they'll complain to the high heavens that it doesn't play exactly like Sonic 1 and buy Sonic 1 anyway like it proves some kind of point

I see. Well, with well-reasoned points such as that, how can I possibly point out that I have played all the games you mentioned, and in fact found them quite fun to play? Am I in the wrong? Are you in the wrong? Or could it possibly be that everyone's tastes are different, and that one blanket statement like the above can actually be too short to cover the cold, hard bed of reality?

The funny thing is that there are people in the industry who invite mod and fangames makers to redo their games professionally. Everything Valve made (except for Half-Life and L4D) was once a fan-made mod.
