Super Mario World is better..
If you guys did a SMW vs Sonic...the would be better, same year
I think it makes sense for Super Mario World to go up against Sonic The Hedgehog.
Perhaps another suitable comparison would be Sonic 3 & Knuckles Vs. SM2: Yoshi's Island.

It's true that the comparison makes no sense. Mario World was a hit around the same time as Sonic 1 & 2, long before Sonic 3 (and S&K)...
Anyways I don't like the lame pastel colors in Mario World; I prefer the normal colors of Mario 3 despite slightly colorless NES graphics. I loved Mario 3 but SMW was less impressive than Mario 3... Worlds are more unique & more suits in Mario 3... So by default, I prefer Sonic 3, though Sonic 3 (alone) is easily my least favorite of the series...
