What happens when you plug a mega drive in a CRT (at least in Europe): the picture is slightly shifted to the left, which means that part of the picture on the left is actually hidden off-screen, and you have an empty border on the right which is sometimes in the color of the game's background.
Like, if you play Sonic or Golden Axe, you'll have a blue border (color of the sky) on the right of the screen, sometimes as big as 1 cm wide.
I'm not a technician at all, I can't go into technical talk because I don't have the knowledge but I hope that you have a better understanding of what I'm talking about.

You have the RGB? picture a bit to the left because it was done on purpose: the video encoding process adds some delay to the RGB lines, and when the sync pulse is added together (doesn't suffer from any delay) it will result on a centered picture (or at least more centered than RGB). The only solutions are shifting the sync signal by -16 pixels (around that), adjust the TV positioning settings, or use SVideo or lower.

Yes! I've got the RGB and you explained quite well what I was referring to. I didn't know it was the SYNC setting that corrects it. On the service menu of my TV, I don't remember that it was called like that. It must have been what I touched up since I achieved getting a centered picture without distorting the image.
I didn't know either that it was due to the nature of RGB.

I wasnt refering to the "Sync" option on the TV service menu on my first option :p. I meant it more like 3 options, the first being constructing a circuit that "antecipates" the sync signal by 16-ish pixels (or delays 420-16 ;))..

Ahh, RGB. Delayed sync so the encoder has time to convert the image relative to the sync. Well, delayed in the sense of the RGB out. Jorge, is there separate sync from the VDP than what's on the DIN/out connector? And is it Csync or two separate sync lines (H/V)? I.e. couldn't you tap/use those sync lines instead, to remove the delay?

Yes, the VDP produces H and V separate too (available at the cart slot), but they have the same pulse timing as CSync, so theyre kind of useless. The only good solution is building some delay circuit (utilising H only), and mix it with V to produce C. (messing with the TV service is crap, and SVideo and lower encodings is crap too, when RGB can be used :p)
