Can't fucking wait!
I agree with Duke, after 12 fucking years it had better be pretty damn good. I'm not an FPS person, but the humor factor may have won me over. I'll see how good it ends up being.
I don't know, now that it's actually coming out for real the magic is sort of gone.
Looks good though. Very faithful to the style of Duke 3D and nothing like all the other crap Duke Nukem games that came out in the 90's.
After so many years of waiting and then seeing this trailer... I don't think I'm going to like this game. The humor seems intolerably bad, the concept of such a cheesy game like this just doesn't sit well by today's standards. Anything like this that's been created in the last 5 to 10 years has been horribly received.
I like that they didn't try to reinvent the Duke on this one.
It literally looks like a direct sequel, which is really what it is. It isn't some Duke reboot; this is the game that has been in the making for over a decade.
I was very surprised to see them keep the original humor, however cheesy and 90's it might be, completely intact. I am glad that they went this route; in a world of cinematic, serious, high-brow experiences, Duke is the voice of fans from the 90's...and he's going to rip off our heads and shit down our necks once again, for the first time in years.
Hail to the king, baby.
I watched some of the leaked footage of what 3D realms was working on, and it matches up the new trailer. It's good they are keeping what 3D Realms worked on.
One of the longest running gaming jokes on the Web just might finally come to an end?
It looks slightly dated (big shocker there), but it still looks pretty good visually, and most importantly, it's Duke. Jon St. John one liners, low-brow humor, strippers, swearing, gore... all the things a growing boy needs. Huge and deathly serious storylines and acting are fine and dandy, but sometimes you just gotta drop that for a while. You know, shove aside a "Saving Private Ryan" for a "Rambo"... simple, graphic, and fun. And while DNF seems to have the first two of those things, the big question is, will it have the third?
Guess we'll see May 3rd.
I get what you're saying but if they tried to fit "today's standards" it wouldn't be a proper sequel to Duke 3D. The absolute cheesiness is just what it is. It might confuse those who don't have any experience playing D3D but I wouldn't want it being any other way. It's the sort of thing you just have to play with your brain turned off to just how ridiculous the whole thing is. The series is sort of a love letter to people into cheesy ultra-violent action and horror B-movies.
No I don't think everybody's going to like it but I prefer them sticking to their guns and their fans rather than trying to fit the HALO mold.
I love Duke3D. It's got well-designed levels, fun weapons and great attitude. It's probably one of the best shooters ever made in terms of sheer fun value. I must say that I'm not all that excited by DNF, though. I can't tell from the trailer, but odds are it's gameplay is no better than Duke3D and while it has decent graphics, they still aren't all that exciting by 2011 standards. As long as I'm going to play a game that's not cutting edge, I might as well stick with the original, which costs $5 at gog.com and has NO DRM, rather than paying $50 for something that's a bit shinier but is probably loaded up the wazoo with tons of DRM.
