There should be 3 cables with the system: an AC Adapter, a standard Composite AV cable, and a cable that connects the 32X to the Genny.

*edit* When the 32X is connected, does it have it's own Audio/Video out or does it run out of the Gennys Audio/Video out?
don't forget the two metal Shields that go into the Genesis Cartridge slot, and the Plastic Spacer so it can sit properly on the Model II Genesis

I have a Model 1 Genny, fyi.
Mine came with those three cords, the metal clips that hold open the Genesis cartridge slot, and a plastic divider that goes between the 32X and a model 2. If you want to play on a model one, then you need to take the divider off of the 32X. Also, it runs off of it's own AV cables.
Brand new ones came with the adapter cable needed to hook into the Model 1 Genesis. Without this you can't use the 32X with your Model 1. This is what you have to watch out for on ebay. A lot of people lost these if they weren't using their 32X on a Model 1.

No, you can't use your Model 1 AV cable with the 32X. You'll run a Model 2 style cable from the 32X out to your TV.

Again, lots of people used Model 2's with the 32X. So not a lot of people know that's required for a model 1.
Here this should explain it for you:
People are selling them because people are buying them for that price. They're perfectly fine for someone with a Model 2 Genesis...you only need that cable for Model 1 systems.
BTW, I'm selling boxed a 32X INCOMPLETE too. Everything but the conversion cable (yes, I scarfed it up for my own use).
And I don't think the prices are too bad. You're paying for:
1. A console that was $150 originally
2. Someone to "take care of it" for 15 years
3. Someone to store it for 15 years until you buy it.
I'm thankful that pack rats have held onto all this old crap so that I can still buy it now :-)

You seem to complain a lot about prices, but things are worth what people are willing to pay. No more, no less. It may not be worth it to YOU but if everyone else is willing to pay for it, then there is not much you can do.
That's why I look for my stuff at flea markets, yard sales, thrift stores, and craigslist for good deals if I can. I know that you, personally, are not willing to do that, so you're automatically going to be paying a higher amount for the things that you're forced to pay retail for on ebay.
The lack of any 32X-to-Genesis cable in a "CIB" 32X I bought back in Spring 2001 is what led me to own it for just a week before returning it. Never played the darn console until I got a hold of Gens years later.
Here is what my 32x came with, I got it the Christmas it came out:
1: The mushroom itself
2: Mono composite AV cable
3: Genesis 1 AV adapter cord
4: AC Adapter
5: Plastic spacer
6: Two metal clips for the cart slot
7: Dunno what you call it, but it's a piece that plugs into the expansion slot if you don't have a Sega CD. (Many complete systems are missing this, I don't think all 32x's had them.)
8: Various paperwork

It's a Direct Model 1 to 32X Crossover cable. I have read good reviews about this cable and I have done business with GameTrog before and they are great.
You are right about alot of people not having the Model 1 adapter cable though. If you can at least get a 32X with the AV cable and AC adapter then that cable I mentioned above, you should be set. I have never used the Metal Shields that came with it. Also, since you have a Model 1, you have no need for the spacer. :cool:
PS: Also remember, the 32X uses the same AC adapter as the Model 2, Game Gear and Nomad. So if you have one of those, then all you'd need is the System, AV cable and the Model 1 Crossover Cable I linked to.

That cable is cool! I saw it before, but I didn't realize it was a direct connection. Pretty cool. I bought my CIB 32X for $30 locally just to get the stupid conversion cable. Good thing is that what I have left is perfect for someone with a Model 2...
