I am trying to find out what the rarest Sega CD games ever made was? Everytime I google it in the search box I get alot of different answers. Is there some type of rarity guide that accurate? I like collecting Sega CD games.

Define what you mean by "rare."
Do you mean fewest copies ever produced?
Or fewest CIB copies recently seen for sale?
Or most expensive games?
Or unreleased proto?...
"Rare" seems to be a very subjective term to videogame collectors.

snatcher most definitively is the rarest.
just like FF7 is rare for the ps1.
CIB copies of most boxed games are rare. Trying to get an actual box in good shape can be a real pain in the ass. But if the disc is all your after than disc-only copies can be bought for a couple bucks.
Snatcher is certainly rare, but why did you compare it to FF7? FF7 isn't to expensive to get a complete copy of.Quote:

Final Fantasy VII is very common, Over my few years of collecting I must've found about 10 copies and a few nice minty ones as well. In my opinion, I believe its perceived as Rare and thats why it use to sell at $50 or more dollars on ebay, now its pretty cheap to find everywhere:Quote:

For a more complete answer on rarity, all of the guides are off right now. Sega CD has a few very dedicated collectors, who are finding out more and more about games, and which ones are actually rare. As mentioned most of the cardboard box games complete would be rare. Valuable, depends and condition really matters. Jaguar complete is pretty rare. As far as regular boxes, Space Adventure is very hard to find right now, as is Radical Rex and Champ Soccer 94.

So who are these people who decide which games are rare and valueable? why are the rarity guides off if the stop making these games about 15 years ago? I have seem so rarity 8 games worth $40 or more and some worth only $3. That does not make since to me, can someone explain that one.

No one decides which games are rare, they either are or they aren't. In the early days of rarity posting, games were often labeled as rare, when what they should have been listed as is popular and uncommon. So if a games is popular and also uncommon it seems harder to find, or when it is found it always seems expensive, thus people shout that it's rare, which in-turn then makes it go up in cost. See Snatcher as the perfect example of this. More and more collectors are now trying to complete libraries for system (Librarians), Nintendo being the most common has a well established rarity guide. Other systems like Sega CD are just now getting enough people trying to complete the system to truly find out what is rare. The rarity is established on the ability to find the title and thats it. Forums now have these Librarians searching far and wide for titles in such places as ebay, local shops, Estarland, GameGavel, forums, and many more. The results of these questing gamers is now being shared, and we collectors can start to put the data together to see what is actually rare. So that is the answer to why the rarity guides are off. Are they getting better, oh yeah but you can't bank on them to always be accurate. They are fairly accurate for prices though. To answer your last question, why are some rare games more or less expensive? Example rarity 8 game X is $40 while another level 8 Rarity title is $10. This has many factors, how long has the title been known to be rare, is it popular, is it a good game, does it have a nitch or sought after designer, is it an RPG or SHmup? The big one though is it desired, which is what all of those previous queries should answer. Desired titles always fetch more. Someone mentioned FF7 for the PS1, for awhile it was fetching 80 or so dollars on ebay, now its fallen to 50ish for black label versions. It is a very common title, it commands a high price because it is well loved, just like Mario 3. Titles like Radical Rex for Sega Cd might fetch $50-$70 even though it is far more rare than FF7. In 10 years though Radical Rex may command $200+ if it is as rare as we think, while FF7 and other common titles will only see a minimal bump if all things remain equal.Quote:

i think snatcher has just gained so much "greatness" momentum that people will call it great without even playing it.
for it's time Snatcher was an amazing game, its hard for point and click type games to survive, i think its along the lines of being able to enjoy reading a book. If released today it would do better enhanced on the 3ds or psp2 in a long car ride.
I'm pretty sure the 32x CD edition of Surgical Strike is one of the rarest. Probably helped by the fact that I can't actually find any dumps of it available. I'm not kidding.
