Cyborg 009
I have a copy of cyborg 009 for the mega cd coming in the mail. I was wondering if anyone has tried this game out or has any thoughts on it. The graphics look pretty nice, especially the cut scenes which I think are done with the mega cd hardware and not ugly grainy fmv like most sega cd games.

It's average, though I didn't play much of it to have a proper "review". So far.. Not bad, not good.

I remember reading the review for this in Diehard Gamefan back when it first came out, it struck me as one of the first times I had ever read a really harsh review in an American magazine.
It's not bad, but not horrid. Nothing that couldn't be done on a first-gen Genesis game, but there's some fun to be had.

That game seems interesting. Is it a Shinobi clone? One of you should play it and give us a good review.

Not even close, I'm trying to think of a similar game but I usually only play really good games so it's hard :p.
Info:
- The intro has a really bad dithered background (for no apparent reason)
- Cutscenes have very little animation, even less than what's usually on the pcengine (and this with more than twice the ram... no excuse).
- The audio is completely out of sync (at least on emulators)
- You can only shoot horizontaly and there's only 1 weapon
- There is a teleport feature ala Alien Soldier, but it only makes you "immortal" because it breaks the game's collision detection half the time.
- Controls are a little sloppy.
- It's not bad color wise, but the graphics are mediocre, could be done easily on the genesis.
- Music is CD Audio but nothing even remotely memorable.
- There's slowdown... seriously... slowdown with like 10 small bats on screen.
- The game is very easy and short.
- There is 1 hard boss battle.
- The final boss is a tiny floating head, it's only slightly difficult because it's super hard to hit the damn thing.
- There are some wierd but awesome enemy designs, like weird old mermans, and greek style archers together in the same place as 'ninjas' with jetpacks.

It looks more like a mega man clone than a shinobi clone. There is a video with some gameplay at segagaga.com in the movie vault.

It's an okay sidescrolling platform-action game with story scenes based on the series. Decent game. Devastator's better, but it's alright.
