Yeah sure, you can play online with it, and you can download some stuff, but there's no proper overarching service like you get with Xbox Live.
What are those overarching services you speak of, Xbox insider?

But in the end, over the years I have come to realize that online multiplayer is just a very shallow experience. The fun you get is very dependent on the quality of your fellow players, and in practice 4 out of 5 players are complete idiots. For instance, playing a complex racing game such as Gran Turismo or Forza online should be a great exercise in clean, precise and careful driving, but in practice it usually boils down to a fancy game of bumper cars. It gets different of course once you start playing in clans and pro leagues and such, but I don't have the time nor the will to invest that kind of effort anymore.
What's worse, in most cases the online community of a game will be dead several months after the initial release. So in the event that I do get attached to a game's online multiplayer, there's a good chance I won't be able to enjoy it anymore sometime soon. This has stung me a lot throughout the years. There's plenty of online games that I have fond memories of and that I'd like to play again, but I simply can't because there's noone else playing them.
Nah, online MP has run its course for me. I'll stick with single player and local multiplayer from now on.
Yeah, unfortuneatly you'll get the massive influx of people that really don't care about taking online seriously and would rather be a pain. But, eventually they'll move on. I've found that most racing games will keep a dedicated audience that has a little more respect. It's cool playing against people from Europe, since they seem to be a little more low-key about surrounding themselves with attention.
