I've been playing Jim Power for one hour. I said to myself "hey, it's not that bad". It is very decent game indeed.

It could have been good. Other versions are I am told. The problem is that the MD port is very unfair with jumps and other stuff that will inevitably damage you.
Those errors start from level 1 sadly.
Yeah, that Jim Power game is pretty cool, though mercilessly hard, like Battle Toads hard, the sort of hard that's so insane it makes the game basically broken. I do dig the music in it though.
I have to admit I kinda like the Lobo game, not so much for the gameplay but I really like the atmosphere and the music in it.
I don't really know of that many unreleased titles. However, I'd love to discover more, hopefully this thread will deliver.
Now what I'd really like to try out is the X-Women game.
I like the Lobo-game mainly for the reason that it's Lobo! Hehe, back around 1996 or so an artwork of mine was printed in the German edition of Lobo #1. I was so proud.
About Jim Power I especially like the visuals. It looks very colorful for a Genny game. :)
Another unreleased game I liked was Jellyboy. It was released on SNES and GameBoy though.
And I still hope someone finds ROMs of Factor 5's Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures and Lufia...
TIME TRAX! No contest.
Still hoping there's a prototype of "X-Women: The Sinister Virus" floating around somewhere........have my hopes up, look at how X-Men 32X was unearthed.
@roundwars
Wow... I must say that this is probably the best piece of music ever to grace the Mega Drive.
Is there a ROM available, or some game footage from the MD version?
Yeah, another vote for Jelly Boy... especially because somehow it came packaged as a cartridge with my model 2 o_o so it's pretty much the first MD game I've ever played.
Also I swear it plays much better than the SNES version. The physics are completely broken on that port, argh.
Dude that's pretty hardcore!
The guy in that game creeps me out. I should make a cover for it.
That is possibly my most wanted game of all time. You have no idea how much I've been wanting a rom of that to surface.
Stone Protectors is kinda fun. http://nesplayer.com/prototypes/ston...tors/index.htm
I thought it was a pity that Ninja Gaiden never got finished. There's a bootleg available, though, but the control sucks :\

From my blog:

My favorite unreleased game is RESQ. Luckily the developers released the rom on the net some time ago.
Same here but I discovered that if you pause the game and press A it will jump to the next stage.Quote:
I just tried this game. It's cool in the fact that I never played it before although some parts drag. I died a thousand times but never got a game over.
That Ninja Gaiden game is pretty cool, it's just too bad that you can't advance past that waterfall level. I feel bad for whoever gets that put on a cart and expects it to be a full game. Shame they never finished it. We could always use more ninja themed games.
You can, actually. There's a cheat. Something like B+Start to skip levels. I played every level and got to see the ending thanks to that cheat :)
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j6...njagaiden3.jpg
Hey cool, I didn't know that about Ninja Gaiden. Still would be nice if it worked without the cheat though.
I just checked out RESQ, this is a really cool game! I can't believe this didn't get released. I'd actually consider getting this as a repro. Though it's gonna be hard to make box art for it.
Here's a list of all the unreleased that I know of/have tried and my brief little reviews of them.
ResQ
Possibly the best unreleased game on the system. It has great gameplay in both the sidescrolling and 3D Starfox type levels. The music is nice, sound effects are good and the gameplay is polished. This game is complete and a lot better than many released titles. Well worth putting on a cart.
Stone Protectors
Another good one. Fun brawler action with really weird characters. As far as I can tell this also seems to be entirely complete and just never got released for some reason. Worth putting on a cart if you're into the sort of thing.
Jelly Boy
This got officially released on the SNES, ironically enough the unreleased Sega version plays a lot better than that one. Typical platformer action with some interesting character mechanics. The art style is kinda ugly, but I think the creators were going for that aesthetic so I can't really bash them for it. Gameplay is really polished in this version, unlike it's SNES counterpart. Worth putting on a cart if you're into the genre and the character doesn't creep you the fuck out, or if you like the SNES version and want one that plays better.
Lobo
Let's face it pre-rendered 3D graphics never looked good on 16-bit consoles and this game is no exception. However the game has some personality to it, the arenas are pretty neat, and it's cool because it's Lobo, and you don't mess with Lobo. The gameplay is a little clunky, but if you like games like Killer Instinct, you'll probably feel right at home with this. There are some gameplay mysteries/glitches in this game, but nothing that would make it unplayable ie: the victory icon seems to show by the defeated character's health bar (so I guess it's a defeat icon). Also the whole thing with the 2 health bars is just weird and there are some typos in the game text. Once you get over that though, this game can have it's moments. Cool music too. Might be worth putting on a cart if you're a Lobo fan or just want an ok fighting game to add to your collection.
The Itchy & Scratchy Game
It's the same one that got released on the SNES. Like most games that came out on both Genesis and SNES, the Gen version has worse graphics and smoother/faster gameplay. As far as I can tell this one is also complete and got canned just before release. No glitches or anything like that, but the game is just mediocre. If you like the other Simpsons games on the Genesis, chances are you'll probably like this one, same goes for the opposite. The gameplay mechanics are decent enough, something to make note of since it's an Acclaim title and they had a tendency to make really pretty games with horrendous controls (Ahem, Wolverine Ademantium Rage... Spider-Man The Animated Series...). Worth putting on a cart? Maybe, it's a nice novelty and the game isn't terrible, just another average 2D action title. Although I did make a nice cover and cart sticker for it. ;)
Jim Power
This game is really pretty looking. It has nice colourful graphics and lots of detail. The controls on the other hand aren't so hot, and just make this already horrifically difficult game even harder. The music is really nice too, but it only has one song, it's a good one, but you'll be hearing it in every level and at the game over screen... which you'll be seeing often. I wouldn't really recommend putting this on a cart, unless you're a serious masochist and don't mind listening to same song over and over. It appears to be fully playable, but the lack of musical variety and unpolished controls just make it obvious that this one wasn't quite finished.
Ninja Gaiden
It's interesting that they went the brawler way with this one. The gameplay isn't too bad, not spectacular, but it does all the basics of brawling and it does them well, nothing original though. The graphics are average at best, not so hot in other parts ie: the waterfall level. This game isn't entirely completed. You can't progress through the waterfall level without using the level skip cheat. The rest of the game is there though, but still, kind of a downer you can't just play through. Not really recommend to waste a cart on.
Swamp Thing
Not sure how completed it is as I haven't tried playing it all the way through. However the controls were pretty bad from what I experienced and the graphics or sound weren't really redeeming it either. Not sure if it's worth putting it on a cart or not, maybe someone else on here played it more than I have. EDIT: See post below, game is incomplete, do not put on a cart!
Prince of Persia 2
TFG Psygnosis didn't actually release this. This game has fantastic graphics, and nothing else. It's like a shiny red Ferrari that's actually built out of turds underneath the paintjob. Seriously this game is terrible. The controls hardly work. There's a noticeable delay between hitting a button and your loser character actually doing something, and even when he does react, he's super slow about it. I tried playing this about 5 times, and every time I died within the first 15 seconds of gameplay. You start playing and the first enemy kills you, since your character moves at a snail's pace, also if you try avoiding him you'll die, there's a pit, but you can't jump over it. I can't beleive people actually put this on a cart. Not recommended!
Matt and I own this proto and released it for free. Although I think the gameplay mechanics are a bit more clever than others, it is completely unfinished and crashes near the end of the first level. Worth checking out on an emulator for the novelty factor, but definitely not repro worthy by any stretch.
Ah cool, thanks for the deets. I guess I won't bother making a cover for it. Too bad, I was looking forward to it. Swamp Thing is such a neat character.
No I haven't. What other systems was it released on? Is it any better at all on the other platforms?
Prince Of Persia 2 is really hard right from the start, and thats how the game is meant to be, its not broken (well the music is a bit). Its not bad when you start to know what your doing, I prefer it to the original Prince of Persia. The basic gameplay is very much a continuation of the first POP, but with more variety.
As to the best Unreleased game, that award has to go to ResQ. Its an excellent game, and theres nothing else like it for the console, released or otherwise. The difficulty is on the high side, but theres level select codes so you can see all the game that way.
Jelly Boy is a very nice game, not massively original I suppose given its a platformer in that genres top era, and a bit on the hard side too I think. Like ResQ its a shame it wasn't released - especially when you think of how many inferior games did get published.
Wildsnake is pretty good too, a puzzle game worth a play.
I have a soft spot for It Came From The Desert. Its one of those so bad its good games. See how many tries it takes you to get past the very first bit of the game!
I definitely agree about ResQ.
What is Wild Snake? Is it just a snake game? Ie: eat stuff, get longer, avoid eating yourself?
As for It Came From The Desert, I've had the rom for a long time now, I never knew it was an unreleased title. I can't figure out WTF you're supposed to do in it. You get a gun that doesn't seem to do anything. The grenades seem more useful, but I don't know about the rest of the game since you pretty much die at the start. It's one of those games I'd need the manual for lol.
Nah its a puzzle game in the vein of Columns. You have to match up the different coloured/patterned snakes, with the snakes slithering into spaces after you have dropped them. Nothing revolutionary, but its a solid enough game, and has two player modes.

I stumbled upon a Cracked article that mentions a canceled port of Waterworld. I'd be interested in it if only because the SNES game had really good music.
The Waterworld ROM is widely aavailable.
Didn't know that... found it on youtube. Seems like there's only 1 song in it, and it's totally different from the SNES soundtrack. Decent, but not as good as the laid back, mellow SNES stuff.
Well I just lost the last 2 and a half hours playing Wild Snake, so I might as well do a little review of it.
Wild Snake
Interesting little puzzle game that's sort of like a mix of Mean Bean Machine and the classic Snake, though better than both. I'll be pretty honest, I don't like puzzle games, but the fact that I managed to enjoy this one for over 2 hours is pretty impressive. The game has some cool gameplay mechanics especially when playing on the more interesting shaped stages. Watching the snakes slither around is cool and you can set off some neat chain reactions. Music is pretty catchy too. I'd recommend putting it on a cart if you really dig puzzle games. It's definitely a high point of 16-bit puzzle gameplay.
I contributed to Guardiana.net database with the cover for Wildsnake.
My friend faraon has a copy, too, of course.
He has both Waterworld and It Came From The Desert, too ;)
Oh sweet! Where did you get the artwork for the Wild Snake cover from? Did you draw it yourself?
No, I think that was also made by playgen. I THINK, though I am not 100% certain on that one.
Yeah I drew up that artwork, although its been put into another genesis template and the back text and stuff is different. I've also spotted the images I did for ResQ, It Came From The Desert, Tecmo Cup, Jelly Boy in that link above. Presumably taken from the low resolution preview images I had up, rather than the silly big originals, so probably haven't printed that well.
Is the artwork you drew up available for download somewhere, or do you charge people for the covers? I've love to make up some covers using those pics. I've been making repro covers for any unreleased and translated titles I could get my hands on. I'd cradit you of course.
Here's the thread if you haven't seen it: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16077
I would just LOVE it if I could make covers for some of those unreleased games, like Wild Snake (which I actually want to get on a cart now because that game is so damn addictive).
I don't know where my friend got his copy, I'll have to ask him. I only asked him to scan the cover for me (for my personal "rare covers database", lol) and I sent it to Guardiana a while later.
The front cover was made public in magazine previews before it got cancelled, though.
Really need to play more unreleased games to answer this one but out of the ones that I played; ResQ is pretty nice (but a bit hard for me), Zombie High had promise if it wasn't one part of the stage that can be playable (the ROM shows evidence of a gym stage and possible a skateboard part), Ninja Gaiden would have been better if the bugs were fixed but as it stands it is okay just needs a bit more polish like a couple of months work to make it good, Wacky Races needs the controls fixing and the difficulty turned down to be enjoyable and the Factor 5 Bomberman game is well... Bomberman.
Also out of the code that was leaked, Mr. Nutz 2 looks very nice but I have yet to play the Amiga version of it which is called Mr. Nutz Hopping Mad. The other unreleased games were games that appeared on other formats (Chaos Engine 2 that was panned by fans even though if you think about it it was like an early Team Fortress 2 in a way, Bill's Tomato Game, Itchy and Scratchy) or maybe turned into other games (Fun Car Rally = Combat Cars?).
If you're looking for a cover of Wild Snake, maybe having a look at the SNES version might help for inspiration: http://www.gameexpress.com/images/pr...004211300F.JPG
