that reminds me. are we gonna be seeing a new episode this week?
No. We are bi-weekly for right now. We may resume weekly in the future. We have a lot of ideas on the burner now and I have already been capturing video footage of games for several episodes into the future.
Joe
What kiind of Camera are you using to shoot your eps??
How many GB you take up?? like a 8 min ep
We've shot every episode except for the first on a Canon 7D DSLR. Looking at the Final Fight/Streets of Rage episode, the editing project took up over 32GB. The file I uploaded to Youtube was a 1080p MP4 file which was 765.3 MB. That one was 8 and a half minutes. The Sonic vs Mario episode took up close to 150 GB (editing project). The largest file uploaded to Youtube was 1.32 GB and was the TurboGrafx episode.
The first episode was shot in MiniDV on my ancient Canon XL1 camera because Jen was using the 7D for a paid photo shoot that day. I figured that would be cool because when people go back and watch episode 1, it'll feel really old compared to the recent stuff and it will give more of a feeling of how far we've come. I like stuff like that, even if it was kind of planned.
Great episode Joe. I was never aware of Hagane. Strider and Run Sabre don't count, though?
The last episode ruled. Shinobi III is still my fav from all of those.
The ending was great too :D
I gotta agree, the last episode is great.
And if Legend of the Mystical Ninja counts, then Joe & Mac should somehow count too (after all, the full title is Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja)
Also, I'm not sure if it counts since it's a beat-'em-up, but you forgot The Ninja Warriors.
Here is the episode:
And no, I don't consider Strider a ninja game. I'd put in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before that. I have no clue what Run Sabre is. Never heard of it.
And like I said in the video, I was sure people would point out what we missed. People love doing that more than anything else.
Wow great episode. I really need to sit down and play some Shinobi.
Joe, if you don't mind me asking, what are you using to do your game captures and editing (i didn't see it mentioned earlier in thread). Aspiring videographers want to know.
Capturing of the games is usually done via a Sony DVMC-DA1 external DV converter and fed into the computer via firewire as a DV stream. If I need to capture HD stuff, I capture it with my Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro PCIe card. All editing takes place in Final Cut Pro 7 (not the newest version being sold for $300, that cannot do what Game Sack requires).
Capturing Genesis footage is much more difficult. Nothing likes the colors it outputs. Usually it is almost OK, but sometimes, and without reason, the colors are blown out all to hell. If I use the XMD-3 svideo converter, the colors are brighter than the sun. If I attach a 32X it gets even worse. I must do composite video without a 32X for best results, unfortunately. But even then, sometimes the DVMC-DA1 gives me troubles because the Genesis video is far from consistent. For the last episode (Streets of Rage) and this episode I had to route the video through a Canon XL2 camcorder and have that convert to a DV stream, but it makes the video a bit more soft than it should be. I wish I had a properly modded Genesis with s-video, but there is no assurance that would be legal as far as colors and they still might get blown out. I find myself wanting to cover the Genesis less and less just because of this issue.
'Really enjoying your vids there Joe.
I can half-see why you wouldn't consider Strider a full-blown Ninja game. I actually am always reminded of Atomic Runner when I think of Strider (same premise and all). Where would you have placed Mystic Defender, though?
Mystic Defender is an action-platformer. Nothing to do with ninjas. I don't see Strider as a ninja. He doesn't throw shurikens. He's just some dude wandering around with his face in full view. And before you say "But you included Legend of the Mystical Ninja..." stop. Not my idea. It was Dave's, but I thought it was funny enough to include.
Run Saber is basically a SNES Strider, hence the mention by zetastrike. It has something Strider doesn't have, though: simultaneous 2-player action. Here's a gameplay vid:
That game looks and sounds incredibly.... goofy and "derpy". Still, I'd probably buy it for $5 or less at a thrift store.
Run Saber is clearly a lame Strider rip off.
The voice sound is almost identical to the Japanese Strider.
Soundtrack is terrible, level design is poor... Enemy design is very bad too.
And the guy moves like a jerk.
