While I admit Burning Rangers isn't the most polished game, it's not that bad really. I'm not sure what they heck Joe was doing in the water portions, I never had that much trouble swimming. Stages 3 and 4 also seem to be a bit more polished and don't have as much polygon breakup going on:

I've heard that the Japanese version of Saturn Doom actually is a really good port, & the North American release may have been a victim of rushing to market (much like how 32X Doom development was cut short because they wanted it to launch with the system).Quote:

Doom 64 is actually considered by more than a few Doom fans to be the best Doom game ever. Great, great game if you like Doom. I've never had an issue with the games' brightness level, it's a bit dim but visible, but turn up your TV brightness or something if you're having trouble seeing... it's really not that bad, and the game is very good.
Also, I'm glad to see Dave finally appreciate Donkey Kong 64. :)

What a waste. The Saturn port of Doom has kinda the same circumstances as the 3DO version -- unnecessarily poor, "rushed" development, yet it was made way later than it should have been. In theory the Saturn should have gotten a better port than the Playstation.
I bought my Saturn at launch while a friend of mine bought a PlayStation - exactly because of Doom. I had the game on PC so I didn't care all too much but I had to admit that it was an excellent port.
I wonder if the brightness problems with Doom 64 are due to a faulty AV/S-Video cable ? I don't remember the game being THAT dark.
I bought DOOM64 to play with a friend last year. I specifically remember thinking how dark it was, and bumping the brightness all the way up in the menu. It's just an unnecessarily dark game.Quote:

No, it isn't. Not on my TV, anyway. I don't have the brightness all the way up in the game and can see just fine.
Also, I'm really not kidding about the effusive praise many Doom fans heap on the game. I think it's a pretty good game but not quite THAT amazing, but then again, I'm not a big Doom fan, so who knows. I mean, Doom is a great game, but it is a first-person shooter, which isn't one of my favorite genres. Commander Keen will probably always be my favorite game from ID. Keen 1-3, particularly. :)
My monitors are set as close to broadcast standards as allowable. Yours have been "tweaked". My guess is that when they made the game the monitors they used to create the graphics were turned up too high. Kind of like mixing the sound for a movie on a sound systems that's not properly EQd. It'll only sound right on other sound systems that are EQd in the same way.
Anyway I did not adjust the brightness or gamma on the video signal at all, so yes, it IS absolutely that dark. That cannot be argued. You're looking at the raw signal.
I'd bet if you were to watch the Game Sack video on your TV, it would look similarly brighter. Or the reverse, watch the game on your monitor and it will look that dark.Quote:

There's a BRIGHTNESS adjustment option in DOOM 64.
