When Joe stated the Double Dragon segment I was thinking, oh please don't pick a part the Genesis vision.. please don't pick a part the Genesis vision.. please don... over and over till end of segment. A lot of people pick it apart because of the speed of the characters and/or other wise plays like crap but I really like the Ballistic Genesis port. It is funny the Atari 2600 got a port... in 1989?
Edit: Does that work for ya. :p I'm silly.
What's with picking positive holidays to discuss such a negative topic?
A few notes:
Blast processing was '92/Sonic 2, not Sonic 1
Guess you just can't replace that Genesis synth, obviously not on the GBA anyway...
Hmm... so GBA EWJ would have like 25% of the animations then, since the SNES version is missing half the frames of animations of the Genesis(and I would imagine Sega CD and PC) version(s). Which is only a fraction of what makes Dave going on and on about that version so odd(I mean if you really want a bassy gun, let alone music...).
Double Dragon... How bad a developer do you have to be to get slowdown in an arcade cabinet? It's always seemed like arcade technology was near limitless, and even Konami and Capcom, who can figure out how to get slowdown on fast processors(like a 68000), still never had slowdown in an arcade cabinet.
Wow, Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis is real bad
Thank god it never came out in the UK, 15 year old me would of bought it for full price
Can't believe how brutal that Sonic GBA port was.
Yeah, I'd never seen the GBA game in motion but wow. It speaks volumes as to how much Sega, at the time, did not seem to care at all. How that got through QC is beyond me.
And yes, it was strange that Dave did not bring up the MD/MCD EWJ.
I hope they stay far, far away from Atari from here on out. Joe & Dave come across as the type who don't "get it". As someone who loves the 2600, 8bit, and 7800, I don't want to sit through an episode of them complaining about the controllers, graphics, sound, and the early 80s game design. It would be lost on them.
I did see this yesterday. It was a nice episode. Started with a kick butt Gradius Gaiden tune and all kinds of classic Sega games got covered.
Double Dragon on the Genesis is crap, but also probably the best port of the arcade version
That game got some shit ports
I have gotten used to the speed over the years. But than again I'm good with a lot of fast pace games. I'm thinking it must have been done intentionally because of bad press (Edit: well more like word of mouth) on the slowdown in the arcade cabinet? 🤔
And I need to concur with part of this statement.
I never thought of that, but that's a good point. That arcade cab had some serious slowdown. I wonder if that was thought about by the developers of the Gen port. It just feels so weird and twitchy to me, largely due to the unnaturally quick speed. It sure looks great though.
damn, Sonic GBA was an incredible mess. i think unplayability should be the bar for episodes like this.
also crazy to know choplifter was even more brutal on other formats, haha. personally though, i do hope they get into atari era stuff - CGR can't be one of the only ones that cover that ground.
