The biggest change I see in Game Sack is that the short ending clips have stopped being funny.
The one with the cum on the arcade stick was painfully unfunny but it's a bad 1 minute in an otherwise perfectly fine video.

I tend to skip the ending skits. I enjoy the show but their attempts at humor are hit and miss.
I don't get the drama at all but if they can get RGB that would be great. What nerds argue and take this shit seriously.
You aren't going to please everyone with video quality in the end, even if it might not exactly be perfect.
I mean - I get that you guys think that you're being constructive all the time and most of the time you probably are, and I also get that Joe was probably a bit over the top too, but I don't really blame him either. Sometimes y'all just need to chill a little - 10 pages of obsessing over such things is going to get on anyone's wick. I mean, most people who are in that position on YT don't normally interact at all with anyone (not for any particular reason except they don't have the time). The GS guys are usually pretty interactive and YT isn't a full-time job for them. It's great, but kind of a double-edged sword too - comments can just wear you down, even if they're not coming from a hostile place. I've had some pretty shit moments with it myself and I'm not even nearly at their level of popularity.
Hey Kimble, cool to see you back. Loved your Unlikely Licensed Games video.
He's brilliant, an absolute talent. I loved the Sensi Soccer Retro. Such detail, such passion.
No comments on a day when a new one is actually up?
Coincidentally, there's a lot of unconventional sports games from the DOS era...
Tons more Kunio games as well, but most never left Japan(still Nintendo World Cup, and Crash 'n the Boys Street Challenge, though).
Deathrow on the X-box, Road Rash, Skitchin', I'd say there's plenty of material for another episode, or 2, or 3.
Interesting idea for an episode, and like midnightrider says plenty more content out there to cover in future eps. It's worth pointing out in regards to Speedball 2 that there is a Japanese MD version as well, from what I've heard of it it sounds much better music-wise than the US one.
Both the European and Japanese versions are far more polished than the US one.
And both are still inferior compared to the Amiga and CD32 versions IMO.
The US Genesis release really isn't a good representation of what this game is.
There's also a remake/sequel for the PS1 called Speedball 2100, which is quite mediocre.
Pitball is pretty good IMO and has 4P support, Professional Underground League of Pain is decent and has 8P support; however, they're PS1 games so we'll likely never see them on Game Sack.
BattleSport (3DO/SAT/PS1) would have been expected IMO.
Brutal Football (AMI/CD32)/Brutal Sports Football (Jaguar)/Beastball (GEN) feels unpolished but it's a cool game IMO.
Since Arch Rivals was present, I think Hit the Ice (GEN/PCE/SNES) could also be included.
And WindJammers (Neo Geo MVS/AES/CD) is a must.
The only interesting/different choices in this episode IMO were Ballistix and Pigskin 621 A.D..
super dodgeball on the neo geo is damn fun
Enjoyed the video, although disappointed at the lack of LOONEY TUNES B-BALL.
Seriously one of the best NBA Jam clones out there. Super fun and enjoyable (especially with 4 players).
Also, could have mentioned Base Wars after or before Super Baseball 2020.
By the way, anyone catch Joe's self-deprecating joke?
He said something like "But it's not as bad as what people on the internet say, just simple... just like me."
I hope they don't lose their enthusiasm and fervor for doing this. I don't know if it's just me but lately their videos don't seem as great as some of their earlier ones. Or maybe that's just me. Or maybe I'm expecting too much. I still think they're probably the best retro gaming-based channel on YT, but their last few episodes have only been "good" to me. Not great.
I appreciate them showing lesser known titles, but I feel they pick some bad to below average ones too much, and thus, Joe or Dave tends to "rip it" or do the whole "I wouldn't go out of my way to play it... EH I guess it's OK-ish for 5-10 minutes, but I wouldn't want to play it for longer than that." It's admirable they show these lesser known games, but don't always show the poorer ones. For example they were pretty negative on Pigskin Footbrawl and Caveman Games, which is understandable since they didn't like these games. So, maybe highlight something else that you actually like and can recommend?
I don't mind them mentioning or "highlighting" such below average to mediocre titles, but not if it comes at the expense of some pretty awesome stuff like Looney Tunes B-Ball which they could have highlighted and pushed instead.
*shrug* maybe that's just me though...
There's only so much time in an episode and they said there would likely be future installments on this topic. Just suggest whatever games they missed if you want to see them later.
Ha, that's at about 14:58: "Overall I don't think that this game is as bad as others on the Internet make it out to be, but there's really nothing tremendously special about it either. Just like me!"
Since I usually watch Game Sack (and most videos) at 1.5x or 2x I originally misheard it as "just like Dave".
Saves time, honestly. Once I started doing it, it was hard to ever go back, and so many YouTube folks speak soooo slooooow-lyyy that it becomes maddening after a while. It's amazing how many people sound much smarter and quicker-witted at 1.5x! :D 2x is right at the edge of intelligibility, though, so 1.75x would probably be the ideal.
Of course I slow things back down if I want to look closely at gameplay (especially for an unfamiliar game), and I don't watch movies or music videos that way.
Good episode, the skits at the end have been a bit naff of late (the joystick with the gunk on it springs to mind) but I liked this one. Good selection of games too, I like it when they leave room for more episodes so we can look forward to them in future.
Speedball 2 looks a bit sparse these days, but it plays well. A mate of mine used to have it, we played for hours on end it was so addictive. It's currently on one of my many backburners.
I totally get that. It just irked me a bit that they "wasted time" on two titles they basically pissed on when they could have shown more entertaining footage from more worthwhile games.
I guess I'm just done with terrible games, lol. I love it most when someone is talking passionately about games. There's plenty of obscure-enough stuff that's still really good (i.e. Looney Tunes B-Ball). If they are saving some games for a part 2 down the road, I get that too. Me personally, I would prefer them not to hold back and just show the very best of the best. If there are enough titles worth recommending AFTER THAT, then you can do a second video.
Again, just me nit-picking. I rather not waste time seeing bad games and then hear "I wouldn't really recommend it to be honest..." it's fine if you show it for 15-30 seconds as a quick "Hey look we got this obscure bad game in our video!" bit, but not for 2 minutes each. That's FOUR minutes of crap gameplay (not crap footage, just crap gameplay -- HUGE difference. Their footage is always top of the line IMO). Four minutes watching crap and hearing them tell us it's CRAP. That's not my idea of 4 minutes well spent. It made the video feel a little uneven as a result. That was my only pet peeve with an otherwise fine edition.
Ah, Speedball 2, I used to play the Amiga version quite a lot. It's probably the Bitmap Brothers game I enjoyed the most, the others struck me as kind of clunky to play.
As for Joe's complaint about the graphics: It's funny, I remember how back then, Dan Malone's notably "shiny" style of graphics design that most of the BB games used was seen as the bees' knees even though "colorful" definitely isn't a way to describe it. But then again, the shading in the Genesis version indeed looks kind of off to me, I'm going to check if I can find a couple screenshots of the Amiga version.
Shiny - just right! The graphics on the ball used to wow me. Still do a little, but the rest of it does now look a little bland, but still quite nice.
Thanks for those positive comments a couple of pages back :) I still lurk here quite a lot.
Wasn't a big fan of the latest episode, though probably won't go into the reasons why because it'll more than likely cause a very pointless derail.
I turned the latest episode off half way because for the most part it honestly seemed like an autopilot-tier episode. They play games a bit and go "it has this and this and that and it's alright i guess"
I can tell when they don't give a shit about what they're covering. A meh Game Sack episode is still better than 90% of the tripe on youtube though I guess.
I liked the GBA version of Super Dodge Ball.
Some games to consider for next time:
Hot Shots Golf or Tennis (various Sony systems)
2 on 2 Open Ice Challenge (arcade, PSX) - Midway's NHL counterpart to NBA Jam.
Baseball Stars (NES version, which they apparently haven't covered) - easily my favorite NES baseball game, if it's not too conventional for this topic.
i don't even watch game sack anymore
I watch it from time to time. It's pretty neat overall. I sat and re-read this thread where this stupid crap happened. I think Joe took a lot of flack over what I think was honestly a very stupid thing to nickpick on. Sad he's gone but who knows, maybe one day he'll come back since a lot of people here still love their videos.
I still like it, Game Sack is the only show on YouTube I watch regularly (although that isn't really saying much).
With some shows, it's so painfully obvious the hosts get the idea that they could "make it big" once they hit a certain number of viewers, especially seeing how much money can be made on YouTube these days. As a result, they often become unbearable to watch.
As Dave and Joe are obviously a little older and wiser than most of their "competitors", I can't see this happening with Game Sack.
I recently discovered a new-ish show on studio and recording techniques and threw up a little in my mouth when the host said into the camera that he's hoping to make a career out of doing tutorials on YouTube sometime. And lo and behold, during the next couple episodes, the cheap tactics to get more views seemed to multiply.
YouTubers just aren't for me, I suppose.
I've noticed some of that with Game Sack, though. They've really gotten into a groove of cramming as many games as possible into a lot of their episodes, which often results in shallow commentary. Some of their recent ending skits employ really infantile humor. The thing that disappoints me most is they keep playing it safer and safer with the games they talk about. Some episodes are really laden with very popular stuff that everyone talks about. These days I don't think they'd ever do an episode dedicated to Valis, but I'm sure they'd do one dedicated to DKC if they hadn't already. You have to figure a good number of their subscribers are your average youtube gamers that only want to hear about what they're already familiar with. Talk about something niche/interesting and they'll lose interest. Also, I think they're starting to run out of ideas because as others pointed out, they seem to be going through the motions a lot. This may be because they've covered most of the stuff in their own collections. This could be remedied by branching out into Atari/pre-NES or DOS games, but they aren't interested in that.
I watched the Q&A at Too Many Games they put up recently, and it seems as though they're planning to do something based on Atari in the future? Someone asked and Joe said that they were waiting on an AV modded Atari. I don't think it's ever been a question of them not caring for those systems, I think it's more to do with video quality - y'know what they're like, they'd never capture using RF or emulators unless it was a last resort. They said about planning to do FM-Towns and MSX too at some point, which should be cool.
My favourite Sacks are usually the console overview ones - I think they're pretty much great without exception. I really like the odd episode that's a lil' different too - I thought the Console Modding episode was one of the best things they'd done. I'd like to see more of that sort of thing...I kind of agree that the episodes based on a theme are becoming a lil' bit generic lately. But I'm a bit disappointed that their humour seems to be gradually gearing more towards the AlphaOmegaSin crowd, to be honest. It's so awkward.
