I agree with Olls, Hard Corps: Uprising looks great.
And I freakin' LOVE Contra ReBirth.
And as bad as Gunforce is, it's one of my guilty pleasures.

I must say I kind of dig 2D gameplay with 3D graphics, so Shattered Soldier was my kind of game.
Nice thing you showed thedinosaur in Contra:Hard Corps, the absolute low point of the game. This level must have been taken from a cancelled SMS version.
And good thing you only wasted a few seconds on Alien Soldier. :P
Run N gun video, 18:10
what do you mean coming soon? there actually gonna bring a snes game back?
It was announced by Super Fighter Team quite a while back.
What stage from Hard Corps: Uprising was used for the final montage?
As for Alien Soldier, it takes me a while to really get the feel of how to play it. Since it is a Treasure game, the gameplay is kind of gimmicky and you can't just jump into it after years of not playing it, it needs to be relearned, so it gets included in the montage at the end (though featured for longer than other games).
Coop: Turrican can't get it's own main spot because it doesn't, by default, have a multi-directional shot (ie: you can't aim up). Mega Turrican is in there, though, representing the whole series. Target Earth would have been a good one to include. Same with Sunset Riders.
Hard Corps Uprising was not included in the final montage since it got its own segment.
I meant the song that you used for the montage. Reading your list of included games that were used for background music in the credits, I thought it was from Uprising.
The montage music was from Contra Shattered Soldier. Uprising music was used in the credits and is a stage 7 theme.
Awesome, thank you. :)
Good episode, but it could've been like two hours long. :p
How about Arcade vs Console 2 - Altered Beast
What I immediately though of after seeing j_factor's post:
Do a proper Street Fighter II Vid
or better yet make Arcade vs Console a Series
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat II
Mortal Kombat 3
Define proper Street Fighter II vid. You mean like covering ALL Street Fighter IIs? That in itself would be tough. We already have Arcade vs Console, but I doubt we'd ever touch Mortal Kombat unless you guys want to see me writhe in pain.
That would actually make for a really entertaining Game Sack episode! Sometimes having the host(s) subject themselves to pain is the best way to attract more viewers. :D
Don't care about MK, but I think i'd like to Joe writhing in pain.
Pretty great episode guys. I wasn't interested in Hard Corps uprising at all, until this video. Maybe you guys can come back to this topic in the future and cover some of the games you briefly touched on in more depth.
Latest episode!
Great video, Joe! I'm a big fan of both the Wonder Boy and Adventure Island games, and both you and Dave did a great job describing how great they were!:)
Great episode. I really like the banter during the gameplay segments
Great episode! Nothing to comment on, you guys are getting better every week.
This episode couldn't have come at a better time. I just finished Monster World IV, and I've been on a Wonder Boy kick because of it. Awesome stuff, thanks!
Awesome episode :D I love the very end part too "You got your wonder boy in my adventure island....eeewwww". That had me laughing for a while.
Great episode. The only thing I would've liked to see is the PS2/GC Adventure Island remake. I don't care about the computer versions, but I'd like a cookie anyway. :)
Finally someone did something good in the name of the great Wonder Boy series!
Thank you.
I wouldn't worry too much about the people complaining about game omissions, you even put a disclaimer in the episode which wasn't really needed.
They'll always find something to point out anyway.
Yes, strongly aware that I'm pointing out something right now.
Well you be doing a shmup collection like your side-scrolling clip later on?
We haven't featured a side-scrolling episode. All side-scrolling games ever? Oy, that would be madness! But we do have shooter episodes in the works. No clue yet when they'll come to fruition, hopefully soon.
That was a fun episode! The other day I was even wondering if anyone would do a Wonder Boy and Adventure Island comparison, and today, what do you know? Awesomeness all around.
I laughed every time you guys complained about "moon language". Hahah.
Joe, this was the best episode yet imo.
I definitely have to give Super Adventure Island a try.
You did forget one game though:
Wonder Boy in Monsterland was ALSO sprite hacked and ported to the Famicom; this time not by Hudson, but by Jaleco. It goes by the name of "Saiyuuki World".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rntoj...eature=related
And actually, this Jaleco clone spawnne a sequel itself; I have no idea if the sequel bears any resemblance to any other Wonder Boy/Adventure Island game though.
I always wondered how this strange deal with Westone games came to pass. I mean, we know that Hudson licensed the stuff from them, and that seemingly Sega owned the characters while Westone owned the gameplay... but why? I can´t think of another series with this happening. And it´s not only one title, but several that fall under this akward rule.
Great episode, guys.
I always wondered if, since the Master System version of Wonder Boy never came out in the US and the original arcade version wasn't that known there, when Revenge of Drancon was released people called it an Adventure Island rip-off.
Wonder Boy did come out in the US, it was one of the first games I ever bought.
108 Stars, that game isn't just a sprite hack. Whole areas seem to have been rearranged, the music is completely different as are the backgrounds. I'd say that, at best, it bears a ganeplay resemblence to Monster Land.
Actually, you are right.
Loading both ROMs again just now I notice that even the very first section is different. I could have sworn i was more similar than that... but then again I´m getting old. :)
And ugly, too. Jordin whatshername called me and told me she no longer has a crush on you.
Ha, who cares! She must be getting close to 30 now! I´m not into grannies. :)
I hope she did not disturb Dave and you in your intimate hours. ;)
