I made a demo that used NES zapper clone wired to MD, but sadly I overwrote the source code to it. I tried to make a crosshair show on TV and I got it to work for the most part, but the gun was really really insensitive, so it did not work too well horizontally when you were away from TV screen...

Gamer101, they are not official reviews. We just talk about shit. Also, you linked to the wrong Freedom Force. See, had you watched the entire video, you would have learned something new. Games that you didn't know about are perhaps interesting to see in action. We do these videos to appeal to those who are interested in such things. The only thing I see that you are trying to suggest is "make them shorter I has no tyme!". I try to make them as short as I possibly can given the material we are covering. If I leave out a game, I get flack for it on Youtube. In order to make it shorter I'd have to limit the footage to just the title screens and offer no discussion of the game outside the fact that they exist. At least we don't stay with a single game for too long, that way your ADD shouldn't get the best of you. ;) But it sounds mostly like you are upset that we covered the gun games since you figure only hardcore could possibly like them. I think perhaps you are missing the point of the show. I will listen to those who say they want to see more games than the one person who thinks of this as a review show that should only be reviewing games he is interested in.

Method used in NES lightgun games will only work if there is no delay at all on the LCD. If there's 1 frame delay then it will no longer work.
Which means the LCD must not do any scaling and must be 480 native resolution.

TVs that don't support single field 60 Hz display would really have a problem. (like those deinterlacing to 240p/480i to 480/30p)
It's obviously scaling/interpolating to a much higher res than 640x480 (given the LCD pixel cell size) . . . plus the lack of odd scaling artifacts you'd get by trying to cram an analog signal into a digital frame (the set-up used looks more like composite on an SDTV). It also avoids odd scaling artifacts seen on many HD sets (I haven't properly tested our Sanyo, but I know a number of Samsung and Sony sets are only so-so as far as that goes, and some other brands are really bad -I also know Sanyo tends to be on the cheap end of HD sets, but that doesn't mean their SD support won't be good -I like the flexible aspect/overscan options available by default too ;))
You probably could have perfect 240/480 line conversion (analog lines are well defined in even composite), but horizontal res is more of a problem. (plus, in my case, it also has to support 16:9 anamorphic, so higher vertical res is necessary to get decent quality in that mode)

The NES method can work on longer delay, but it will miss the first target then because when the game looks for it, its not yet shown, and on the next frame when game expects to find 2nd target it will get to see first target window. NES has no means to gather what pixel is being output like MD and SMS can, so to it, it is seeing the 2nd target.

I find it curious that your test example was not only a garbage brand but was insanely huge. Panasonics 54" VT-25 does any resolution very well. The other option is the HDMI converter: This is rather bullet proof as it works on all HDTVs with HDMI port - but there are a lot of shitty HDMI converters out there, so finding a good one can be a bit tricky. Hooking up ANY analog devices to an HDTV will introduce lag. Using these will help with picture quality mostly but also might reduce lag as would be introduced using composite or S-Video connections as the TV applies the most video post processing filters (which are the reason for most of the lag) to these channels.
You will also need an RGB-SCART cable for your Mega Drive.
Good thing is that you can hook up just about ANY machine using these adapters (aside of NES, TG-16 and N64 for which no RGB cables are available).

That would be difficult to quantify as the picture would still be blocky. In fact it might look a bit more blocky due to less color bleeding in spots. I have tried my Genesis in component in HDTV and did not like it one bit. Then I tried it with composite and it still looked like crap, but with the typical rainbow effect of the model 1 and a bit more fuzziness.Quote:
