Thanks! There simply isn't enough Sega and non-NES love on Youtube. Every other show (or more) is full of NES stuff. Always NES games. Yeah, they're great (or really suck) but that system gets too much attention from everyone.
I also have a complete copy of Rise Of The Dragon, the jewel case version. I picked it up cheap as well. Someday, when life slows down, I'm going to play the game beyond the first few scenes.
You own a copy of "Rise of the Dragon" and you've not bothered to play it? You are certainly doing yourself a disservice by not playing that game. I was actually glad that Joe and Dave mentioned this game in their latest video. My first encounter with this game was on the PC in the early 90s. Even by today's standards it is a pretty good looking game. But what makes this game so good is the compelling story. The imagery on screen is a feast to behold! It can be a bit challenging but as Joe mentioned in his commentary, the key is to save your game frequently. If you enjoy point and click adventures, you'll really enjoy this title!
Getting in and out of that crawl space looks like it may end up causing Dave some serious injury. lol
Great episode. Not boring at all like most collection videos
No PC game collections for either of you? Or did you just not include them?
Hmm, apparently these guys don't like Atari!
We don't game on PCs and we haven't added anything Atari to our collections yet. I was about to once not too long ago, but I just couldn't justify the price for such games (the 2600 system included the games and it was a bit high if you ask me... can't remember what the price actually was, though).
I would recommend an Atari 7800 to start out with. Backwards compatible with the 2600!
If you go through Best Electronics online you can get a European Atari 7800 JoyPad controller that plays like an NES controller for $17 each new. Sega Genesis controllers can also work with 2600 games and some 7800 games that only need 1 button.
Another cheap route would be the Atari 2600 Jr.
I have to recommend checking out Atari homebrews through AtariAge. Top of the line games for several systems. Some of the homebrews push these systems to the limit!
You know, I saw the latest video come up and felt a twinge of disappointment - perhaps because I agree with Joe that most game room tour videos are kind of meh. And then I watched it...gah, should have never had any doubts! Such a brilliantly made video! The editing, camerawork, the difference in both halves of the video that showed off your personalities so well...it's one of the best vids you've made yet. I'm just stunned at what Joe, Dave (and Jen!) make every fortnight. My hat is well and truly off. If I could get anywhere even halfway to the level of craft you guys reach in your videos, I'd be as happy as Larry. And you make it look like it's water off a duck's back...in any case it's far beyond nearly all other gaming videos released on Youtube. Amazing.
Thanks guys. FuturePrimitive I will take a look at that site you mentioned. Probably not this month but maybe next month if the finances are in better shape. But at the same time I also want to buy a Glidecam vest. :)
we just don't care about gaming on PCs. Not sure why everyone thinks we should. Dave used to about 10 years ago and got rid of it (and the games). To me, gaming on a PC is not appealing at all. For one, I have no room to set that stuff up. Secondly, I don't want to buy an expensive computer JUST TO PLAY GAMES. We have Macs to accomplish our video tasks here and it's what we use. Not sure why everyone is so eager for us to have gaming PCs and Atari.
Joe, truly an excellent collection video. I just wanted to echo Kimble's sentiments because most collection videos are brutal to sit through, but the way you edited this one made it watchable and, dare I say, classy.
But I too was a bit surprised that you have no Atari in your collection. If you get out there and shop around a bit, you should see that 2600 games are rather inexpensive for the most part. Usually when I hit up used game shops I'm able to pick them up for a buck a piece. There are so many 2600 gems that I recommend looking into it. Some of the guys posted their favs in this thread:

Glad to hear it man! You might be surprised with the number of worthwhile games for these Atari consoles. Could be a little deviation for a future video! The games and consoles would be simple to review as most of the games are straight-forward, arcade style, pick up and plays.
I can imagine you guys making the video like a classic "moving picture" with the Major General's Song. Or, some references to the Atari era. It is Game Sack after all!
It's kind of for the same reason you guys make videos on various Sega/Turbografx/etc. stuff - there are underrated games out there we want to see more people exposed to and enjoying. You guys do a great job at making informative and entertaining videos for more than just the usual NES/SNES content so expanding further would be cool to see.Quote:

With the advent of the 7800 XM expansion and the best console version of the original Donkey Kong arcade game ever created, the 7800 has nowhere to go, but up! There are several outstanding homebrew releases for both the 2600 and 7800.
I think you would find several 7800 owners disagreeing with you. The 2600 has an original library of games that cannot be missed as well.
Not to say that the XE isn't a great system in its own right, but it would be a little unfair to dismiss the 7800 completely. And the 2600, no matter what model, is damn near bulletproof!
Nice collection Joe and Dave, you guys make me wish I had room for everything. But I manage to squeeze 1,022 games into a small room with shelves (ok about 35 or so are VC or PSN stuff, I do count those as I paid for them), just don't have all the room for some nice big bookshelves, and my eagerness to collect continues to grow as I try and fulfill a want list I have made (not counting imports either, but have picked up quite a few of those along the way). This room is also my bedroom, so when I go to sleep I am surrounded by gaming goodness all around.
Overall great presentation, and great video to show, that like the rest of us, you are passionate about gaming.
That's not a bad idea...

Great video as usual. And those collections are fuckin super nice. I think I have maybe over 300 or so games and that's a big maybe. Someone mentioned PC gaming and man I bought MK2 for the PC and playing it on a modern day PC has been a pain in the ass. Trying to get it to boot up on DOSBOX has been a pain the ass too.
LOL that's awesome!
While consoles do have a lot of great games and a lot of the same games that PCs have, I still don't think you should completely ignore the PC market. I do get where your coming from with having Macs and not wanting to buy high end gaming PCs. Though if your Macs are ones with Intel CPUs in them you should be able to run boot camp and dual boot to Windows on it. Then you could play those PC games on your Mac. It doesn't have to be a top of the line PC just a decent one. If you were interested I could probably help you build one for under $750 that would be more than adequate.
Basically I'd recommend a PC for the following games:
Anything by Valve - Better support and community maps
Sonic Generations - 1080p@60fps = Amazing.
Phantasy Star Online 2 - A great Online game that is only on PC and PS Vita at the moment, though I'd recommend PC since there's an English Patch for it.
Phantasy Star Universe - Ran much better on the PC than it did on PS2 and 360. Also had substantially more content towards the end, sadly it's been shut down. Though there are fan made expansions for story mode in the works.
Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst - Best version of the game and still online with private servers.
Star Trek Online - A great free to play MMO.
Any Real Time Strategy Game - I can't even remember the last time there was a good one of these on consoles.
Minecraft - Substantially better than the 360 and smartphone ports. (Should run fine on your Macs).
Sims 3 - It's absolutely hilarious.
Steam - It's a great distribution service with many great games for great prices. For example, why bother tracking down an Xbox copy of KoToR 1 and 2 when you can get them both on Steam for $10?
There's a lot more that other people could recommend here that I've obviously missed, but hopefully that should give you a good idea of what you miss out on by ignoring it.
Joe, there's no much risk in finding a 2600 with dozens of games on ebay or craigslist for as little as $50. Oh, and Joe, SEGA made a few games on the 2600, so you will have to get them! I am surprised Dave doesn't have anything prior to NES/SMS, but the systems these guys do have are all top notch. I would be really upset if they had the 3DO.
Retro PC gaming seems like it would be right up your alley. You enjoyed the original Phantasy Star (dungeon crawler sections in that one), and you like games such as Rise Of The Dragon, and JB Harold Murder Club (Adventure/Interactive Fiction type games). There are tons of PC games like this from the MS-DOS era.
I think you would really love Heart Of China, another point and click game from the same company that made ROTD (Dynamix).
http://www.gog.com/ is where you can find stuff like this, and play it on modern computers, without having to reconfigure everything.
I just watched the video a second time. I liked the way that you filmed the games and the consoles but the way you transitioned from each area of your home to the next. You must have spent quite a alot of hours editing this video! The highlight of the video for me was seeing your surround sound system setup! I can only imagine what it must sound like when your crank up the volume and hear that beast roar!
I'm enjoying the collection vid right now. Well designed video guys.
Damn I wish I could figure out why youtube video stutters constantly on both of my Windows 7 machines in both Firefox and Chrome though. The panning collection shots got hard to watch because it would skip a bunch of frames here and there so I'd miss labels.
Yeah the smooth motion really brings out the flaws in Youtube and the power required to run it. It stutters for me in Firefox but not in Chrome. Well, the occasional frame is dropped in Chrome but Firefox is really bad. How old/new/powerful is your computer? Youtube wants a lot.
The video ran just fine through Chrome for me too. That sounds weird Sheath!
Ya'll should do a video on ram cart games. The PCE, Saturn and N64 have a shit ton of those games
And here I actually thought Dave was a nintendo purist.
Proves me wrong :B
I've been troubleshooting it on my HTPC, with an FX 8150 (Octal Core, 3.6+GHz) with 16GB of RAM, a Radeon HD 7850 2GB, and all SATA 7200RPM Hard Drives. That's what keeps throwing me on it all. I only have 6Mbps download speed and 700Kbps up that is the only limitation I can think of aside from a bad driver or something.
Chrome was significantly better than Firefox for sure, but still skipped nearly every second for a frame or two. I've been having problems with Hulu in Firefox so I had already switched over to Chrome to make that a little better. It still isn't solid though. Oddly enough my LG HD-DVD Blu-Ray combo drive started skipping even more noticeably around the same time and I can't make it stop either. It it plays the audio fine but skips the video just as frequently.
Downloaded HD videos play perfectly as does Netflix. Also, I run Malwarebytes and Spybot on a regular basis and update my codecs with K-Lite nearly as frequently.
Yeah, it's really weird. It also played much smoother on my iPod Touch 4th gen or 5th gen, can't remember... the gen before they got really long. There's just too much motion for whatever is causing the problem.
