SNES problems.

Yeah, yeah, it's a Sega forum, but anyways...

My SNES only outputs a black screen when I turn it on with a game inside. I haven't used it for like 6 years, and the last time I did, everything was fine. It went straight into a box along with my other old consoles. My Genesis was together with it and it works perfectly. It's only a black screen, no sound, no flashes of any kind, just black. I remembered it just being a black screen, but my test now showed electrical noise and horizontal lines. What could it be?
Also, it's not a damaged cartridge, as I've tested it with my whole SNES collection (about 6 carts) and none worked.

I had the same thing happen to one of my SNES's before. What you need to do is get a new power supply, because that one is broken. Do that, and you'll be good to go.

For me, it's usually a bad cartridge connection. Clean your carts and SNES system slot with isopropyl alcohol.

I have another power brick, but it doesn't work, I think it may be the classic ruptured cable inside. My Genesis one is like that, but with a little moving around I can get it to work.

I always clean the cartridges with an alcohol dipped Q-tip, so I think it isn't that. Must be the power brick like TheRollingStoner said. Just in case though, how does one clean the system slot connectors without taking the console apart? I don't have the special screwdriver for that kind of screws.

When I had a bad power supply, I got the same pattern of bars on the screen and static noise. I'm sure once you get a working supply, you will be playing your SNES again. I would recommend an official Nintendo adapter, as some of the third party ones have some issues.

Wet a SNES cartridge's edge connector in rubbing alcohol, then insert/remove from the SNES system multiple times. Dry the SNES cart, wet it and just repeat process a few more times. Let everything dry for a few minutes, then test.

Update: TheRollingStoner was right, it was a power brick problem. I somehow managed to make my "broken" power brick work, and the console booted flawlessly. I even found my Donkey Kong Country save was still intact! A happy day indeed :D:D

Haha. I knew I was right, I just didn't want to be overly adamant about it. We used to have a person like that here, but he has since been "relocated."
