Holy crap. And they say that MK started the gore craze.

I have always had a very hard time playing Doom 3 by myself in a dark room. It doesn't really creep me out to watch someone else play it, but when I pick up the controller and try to play by myself I get very unsettled(is that even a real word?).
Shinobi III isn't too creepy, but Metal Gear Solid 3 has a pretty creepy part in it near the end of the game where you have to wade upstream through a shallow river and face everything you killed throughout the game. I mean everything, birds, chopper pilots, bosses, everything. It's during the boss battle with the Sorrow, very interesting part of the game.
That part is awesome. I did a no-kills, non-lethal boss defeat run of the game and the river part is a little less creepy that way, no bodies show up at all. But if you think about it, being a really long river where spirits (or nothing at all) appear and then the only way to win that part is by drowning Snake, is like a horror movie. MGS3 is one of my favorite games ever made. Between MGS3 and MGS4, I'm not sure which ending brings more manly tears to my eyes. MGS4 may have the upper hand, the whole game is an emotional response trigger if you've played the previous 3 games in the series. It may not have that effect if it's the first MGS game you've played, though.
JESUS FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK AM I LOOKING AT!? D-I-S-T-U-R-B-I-N-G
And this is why I like to play them.Quote:
Almost every ALPHA and BETA version of any game feels kinda creepy for me with it's bugs, different unfinished levels, weird sound/music, and random crashes. Don't really know why.
(Getting 100 rings in Hidden Palace, o yea)
Dang, the clip from SH3 looks sick, I had to stop mid way because I still haven't played that one. The entire series has a great feel for Horror.
Undying on the PC was not what I expected. The shooting mechanics were good enough, but I became lost in the house early in the game, coupled with very slow progression and a lack of monsters, I uninstalled it shortly after. Clean enough feeling game but sadly it was one of the few FPSs I became disenchanted with so quickly due to poor level/map design. Overall it just wasn't fun for me. I wanted it to be though. :(
I can't think of any older games that truly scared me. :?
I feel this way playing some retail games. Any of you play the original TimeSplitters on PS2? Compared to it's sequel, the original feels completely like an early Alpha build of the game. There is literally no story in Story Mode (compared to TS2 which actually feels like it should be the first in the series), the graphics have an unpolished appearance (whereas the sequel does), the music feels partially uncompleted and so forth. In fact, find TimeSplitters 1 to be somewhat creepy because of it's apparent unfinished state. I realize it is *TECHNICALLY* finished, but it really doesn't feel or look like it is.
Why is this in Genesis Does??
Most of these games from like the PC, Playstation..
The Machine in Ecco the Dolphin, as if the game wasn't traumatic enough before then!
The genetic mutations in the later Stages of "Contra Hard Corps" also had some creepy vibes to them.

Your correct this thread maybe should be in off-topic or something, regarding the lack of MD titles mentioned although MD/Gen games could have some gore and horror like graphics lets be serious guys, that is about as scary as things got until 3rd/1st person games appeared.
I have been gaming since 1983 and the first game i recall having a tense atmosphere of any sort was perhaps Dungeon Master on Amiga which was not bad for 16-Bit but truly it has to be the original Resi Evil that was the first game that made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
Fatal Frames. Any part in any of the games in the series.
