that sux, I have a P.N,T. over here, it was run by pretty cool college students, I mainly like that place for selling old games, sadly the placed was close down cause honestly not many sells were going and I really think it was because they were hidden in the back of a building with other tiny stores around it.
I went in one once and was disapointed that their "old games" section was so pitifully small. I guess I was told they sold games from EVERY console ever made but that was a lie because the store was a lot like a Gamestop.
the one up by me is pretty good not a ton of games but they do get new stuff every time im there
My PlayNTrade is amazing, they have a huge stock for every console, their prices are very fair, and the people who work there are very polite, they even know my name! They do get good business too! Some people go in there and spend big bucks. The amazing stuff sells quick! They once had Harvest Moon for SNES for 89.99, a little overpriced but it was sold within a month!
There's one about 45 minutes from my house that I visit about once a month. I love it because most of their Sega games are ridiculously cheap. I picked up Snatcher, Popful Mail and Shining Force CD there for 6.99 a piece last year. I got Fatal Fury Special there a few months back for 9.99. Snow Bros. for NES cart and manual for 14.99. Lots of other good deals, but those are the biggies.
Anyway, any popular NES game like Mario 3, Zelda, MTPO, Contra, etc. are priced at 24.99. The guys there just have little to no idea about the value of retro games. Their current gen games are priced about 10% less that Gamestop for the most part.
You know what sucks, they had a 50% of everything & I was surpose to see my friend in May
I'd been to the Play N Trade in Plano Texas a few times and scored several good deals on PSP, PS3 and 360 games. They didn't have much, when it came to older console games, but there were some nice items when they did have them.
I went to visit the store back in April, only to discover it was no more. My only real source for older games and hardware is the local Movie Trading Company stores. They always have a nice selection of titles for Saturn, 32X and Sega CD, and the prices for boxed GBA games is always reasonable.
I have a few that are within 30 minutes' drive, including one just down the road from me. They're all owned by the same guy, and the prices are generally reasonable, though well-known franchises tend to be overpriced. I've gotten some great deals on Genesis carts -- Shadowrun CIB for $8, Virtua Racing CIB for $1, Sorcerer's Kingdom boxed for $3 come to mind -- and have also done well with certain loose Game Boy and Intellivision games.
Most Nintendo stuff tends to be steep, especially SNES, but I recently picked up a half-dozen (each) CIB NES and SNES games, almost all in near-mint condition, for $1-$5 each. I also got absurd trade-in value for VCS Pac-Man -- $2-3 per cart!
(But they sell it for $15...:wtf:)
VCS Pac-Man shouldn't be more than a $1. It's about as common as the cold.
Yep, if anything it's a 25 cent cart. But because it's a well-known franchise with alleged* nostalgia value, they charge a premium for it. I think they may have dropped it to the $10 range, but that's still a massive ripoff.
*(Though there are a few people out there who apparently have fond memories of VCS Pac-Man, believe it or not! Heck, when I was a little kid I thought it was OK since I didn't really know the arcade version.)
There is one in Tampa Fl I go to, it's on Dale Mabry Highway. The only problem is it's about 1-1/2 hours from my house and I really don't have many reasons to drive that far (thanks to Level 8 games). The prices are fair but most of the Genesis selection is sports titles.
My local Play N' Trade lost the franchise name and changed to "Gamers - Video Games" clever name... And now they have changed owners to a guy around my age (early 30's) He's fair, and every once in a while get's some good retro stuff... He has a decent collection of old school games...
If it wasn't for Play n Trade, I'd have no feasible hope for a future as a retro collector.
There's one near me as well, I've talked to the guy running it a couple times and he's pretty cool, but a lot of their retro stock is not that great. Though the owner of the one near me has a near complete Master System collection, it sounds like a lot of the good stuff he gets in he will tend to keep for his own collection.
Maybe I should open my own.
