Ahh i love Sonic i'm just such a passion for him is anyone else is?
I also have a Sonic Passion.
Check me out about half-way down. I love collecting poll statistics and facing off against Robotnik with my Sonic Passion.
If this is a respect for the awesomeness of Sonic then I am with you guys 115%. I am also a better Sonic player than anybody else on this thread.
If this is some weird Sonic furry sexual thing - this thread can sod right off.
is it weird that for collecting the best games out on the sega mega drive, I have not yet played AT ALL sonic 2?
Some people are so dumb that they think rule 34 is real, and therefore start living the life themselves.
Thankfully these people will never reporoduce.
Yeah you do. :)
LOL... Kogen...

I was just fiddling with 1 through 3 on the Genny after having not played them since beating S&K earlier in the year, and found it funny how much brouhaha there always is over somebody's least favourite of the 4 (v the Sonic vs S&K thread/poll) when they're all superb. Nothing like them. Though that, considering Sega's post Genesis history, is the sad thing.
@Mr Smith and Kamahl = There are better places to begin. And wasn't that always the feeling Tails gave off? Times two.
sonic is the whore of gaming, but I love him n_n
Do bother with it, it's a great game, just way too overhyped by most people.
That is correct. I think it's biggest problem is that the game flies until you get to Metropolis zone and then slows to a boring halt. For me the best parts of the game go to fast to be enjoyed and the worst parts last way to long in comparison. This is not the case in Sonic 1 where the game is balanced all the way through.
The thing with Metropolis zone is for some reason, Sonic Team made it 3 Acts. So throughout the game, it goes 2 Acts, 2 Acts, 2 Acts, 2 Acts, 2 Acts, 2 Acts, 2 Acts, and then 3 Acts that are LONG. But you are rewarded with the coolest "zone" in the game: Sky Chase Zone.
Sky Chase Zone is a level you love as a Sonic newbie, but after playing the game ninty-million times, other levels surpass it.
I hate to disagree with an opinion, but your nostalgia is seriously blinding you here. Marble Zone is a way worse "pace killing" level that anything in Sonic 2. Mostly because it's the second zone of Sonic 1, the second zone. Marble is slow, tedious, has boring music, boring graphics and makes you wait a lot while you ride the marble blocks through the lava. It has three acts like Metropolis Zone and again, it's the second zone, not the second last or anything. That makes it much worse than Metropolis. In fact, it's so bad, I never hear or read much fan coverage or opinion on the zones after Green Hill Zone. Everyone who says Sonic 1 is a great game talks all day about that awesome first level, but never anything after it.
You wanna know why?
Because Marble Zone murders any and all enthusiasm or excitement that enters it's domain. Sure, a few souls may slip past, but even they get mercilessly crushed by the later zones of Sonic 1. Somewhere there is Starlight Zone, but it is merely an oasis in a desert of bad game design that contradicts the original intention of the game itself.
Sonic 1 is a good game yes, just don't forget to realize now and then, that every zone in it that doesn't start with "Green" or "Star" doesn't fit the theme of Sonic. Those zones are more befitting of an Alex Kidd or Altered Beast game. Also, the boss fights in Sonic 1 are extremely under whelming. Super Mario Bros. 1 had more challenging and engaging boss battles and that was on NES... Early NES...
All the levels in Sonic 1 have three short acts; all the levels in Sonic 2 have 2 longer acts (Metropolis having 3 obviously). Let's comapre the two levels shall we? Marble: slow, filled with lava, game's second level; Metropolis: Maze like, annoying death traps at every corner (Grasshopper badnik I'm looking at you!), near end of game level. Marble difficulty-wise is piss easy, Metropolis is just fucking frustrating; the first act's a goddamn maze, and the later ones are chock-a-block with so many fucking unfair hazards: exploding starfishes on the corkscrews sections? Crushing pistons after a ramp? Boomerang-throwing grasshoper just out of reach at that always hits at the top of a massive climb sending you back down again? Marble's slow, but it's a nice pace to the OMG-fucking_FASSSSTT of Green Hill; Metropolis is a nightmare. Too long, too fucking annoying, too piss taking. and I like the music in Marble, thanks.
Those expecting Sonic to be Sonic 1 to be a piss-easy rollercoaster ride will hate Marble; those who find Sonic 1 a brillant platformer with some speed segments will love Marble. It's not pace or difficulty that's stopping you from passing it, it's you're assumption that every Sonic level HAS to be a really fast run to the end.Quote:

I don't know how nostalgia is blinding me considering I played Sonic 2 way more growing up then I played Sonic 1. I just happen to like all the zones in Sonic 1. If I did a zone by zone rating they would all rank pretty high. Admittedly so would most of Sonic 2's zones just not all of them like in Sonic 1.
I agree with SMS version being awesome but my god its hard, i played SMS Sonic 2 Before the MD version on my way to school at a mate's house, it blew my mind!!!
