I couldnt think of a bigger waste of time if I tired.
1) They didnt even use the Japanese version so this wasn't a learn experince for ASM or just futhering rom hacking skills
2) Plenty of untranslated Japanese MD and Mega CD games out there
3) Absolutely so little people are gonna care.
Call me Mr negitivty or w/e but its true.
As the biggest Beyond Oasis fan in the world (or in the running), I am the opposite of Clessy and I'll definitely check this out. Thanks for the heads up, Shadowhawk!
I certainly can.
If it's different then thats an even bigger reason to give it a shot.
Yes and this one was different enough for a translation. What's wrong with that?
I beg to differ!
Instead of Mr negitivty I'll call you Mr. Negativity.
Jesus Christ! I think your capable of much better posts then that.
There's a fair number of people who care about the accuracy of the translated text in comparison to the original. I know someone did a "retranslation" of Phantasy Star II that's also on romhacking.net.
And editing the EU/US version of the game is easier and faster than having to disassemble the game and rebuild the engine... and if the engine is good enough, why bother doing everything from scratch again? Reinventing the wheel is under most circumstances not a good idea. Oh and then you need to have people who know how the MD works in order to reverse-engineer the game =P
Well yes, it is fun — especially fun to me :D (hi I disassembled Puyo Puyo to rip its sprites instead of using a screenshot =P ) But not for everyone, and especially not if the job someone wants to do is quick, like this script fix, so eh :/ Your choice of what you want to do
Very interested; thanks man! :)
Neat! I haven't played the original yet, but it's cool to see that there is an interest in hacking Genesis games and that people are taking the time and effort to follow through and complete these projects. Rom hacks - always relevant!
What is uncensored?
I've worked with groups like j2e and dejap. You heard of them? Or should we be giving some more praise to a simple hex edit of the text of a game? I also have plenty of friends in that scene. To praise something like this is a sheer lack of respect towards groups who take on real projects that take real effort.
Plus you don't have to do something to be objective about it. Your arguement is as stupid as telling movie critics to go out and make a better movie if they didnt like it.
Couldnt get the patch to work. I used the correct file, correct amount of bytes, etc. Ive patched hundreds of files. So I must be missing something? Anyone get this to work yet?
and to people whining because they didnt do something YOU wanted, get a life.
And you DO know that 99.999% of people in the world would consider you spending time on a SEGA GENESIS website to be the biggest waste of time they could think of, right?
^You are correct, i cant get it to work either on any English version
I just found the .BIN rom they mentioned in the documentation and used Lunar IPS patcher to patch it. Then in Gens you need to turn on Auto Fix Checksum to avoid the red screen.
^Yup, you got that one right
havent patched a Genesis game in forever, forgot about that
You can download a program that fixes the checksum on ROMs permantly, but I haven't used it in years.
Well, just fix the checksum and I don't think Everdrive should have a problem with it. Here's something: http://www.romhacking.net/utils/342/
BTW Kega Fusion wouldn't even cough at a checksum error I believe.
Kega Fusion gave me a red screen with autofix checksum off, and worked perfectly when I turned it on.
Thanks for the tips.
Oh and if anybody cares, the linked checksum fixer program does not work in wine. I have virtual machines running windows though so no worries.
i use kega as well
Np, enjoy a fresh take on a great game.
You're so pathetic... "I also have plenty of friends in that scene", and I have a plenty of friends that would love to crush your face. And so what? You are not what your friends are, and being only you, well, you suck!
Nobody asked you to praise anything, you just act like asshole (once again) and bad mouthed a guy (and his work) that you don't even know!
And the "simple hex edit of the text of a game" was made for free by a single guy (not a bunch of otakus) and if it works, where's the problem? I would like to see many other "simple hex edit of the text of a game" instead of more childish-otaku-suckers like you.
Finally, you don't need to create something similar to have an opinion about. But to say things like "I couldnt think of a bigger waste of time if I tired. " you have to make your point very very clear or you'll sound like an asshole all the time.
obviously we care if we all posted in this topic
To people like me who have never beaten the original game this is a godsend
How so? If you didn't like it before I doubt you'd like it now, the changes are pretty subtle so far.
time was the reason i did not finish, I like the game a lot

He backed up his view of why it seems a waste of time with 3 points.
Quote:
It doesn't fulfill a demand, they could have chosen better project to work/learn on.
Whether you agree or not was lost in your response.
How does this weigh against his criticism or point? Are you defending something because someone is negative about it? Complaining about complaints with a point? Welcome to the internet. Good fucking luck to you.
His response was appropriate to deal with this bullshit:
Maybe you should get to the heart of the matter? Maybe you should just come out and say "WAH! SHOW SOME RESPECT FOR THE THINGS I LIKE!" or maybe you should say "How is this in any way disrespectful to bigger projects, as you believe?" (You know, to drive meaningful discussion, the whole fucking point of the forum.)
Personally, I think you're being a sensationalist. You're dropping "Pathetic" and "Asshole" on people when they point out and even acknowledge acceptance of their negative approach to something, rather than retort it with intelligence.
All you've done is pushed the wrong buttons in your argument, the buttons that will drop this thread into a trainwreck waiting on a lock.
I don't agree with his response on this being disrespectful, but I do see the point of his original argument before you started childishly shitting about it. There is an ignore feature for a reason, and I suggest you use it if you don't have the skills to discuss something without 'telling' people how they are wrong with nothing but insults to back it up. If you do, then put them to use and keep the childishness to a minimum.
I find funny how people want to argue about arguing. And even funnier when people overdo it. I mean, just ignore someone if he sounds like and ass. Instead people like to light the fire and destroy a topic about a nice thing, whether you like Beyond Oasis or not. Cheers.
How much more definitive can you get than a U.S, NTSC, official Genesis run from the system's own heyday? I think what people are probably trying to say by "wasted" time has less to do with never having tackled such project than actually having veered such talent and effort towards bringing forth something we actually didn't already have.
^if people will retranslate official releases, maybe we will get retranslations of non official games like Beggar Prince
Because Tony Van, the localization producer for Beyond Oasis, revealed that the translation wasn't very accurate. People have been curious about the original story and names for some time.

While its been awhile since i've been into the rom hacking scene I worked on the first and only PSP fan translation. We got a huge chunk of Breath of fire 3 translated before capcom wasnt releasing a english version. As soon as they did however we stopped work on it. Oh and this was a translate that took a little more skill than busting open a hex editor and replacing some text.
Clessy,
You and KD showed how much you are able to suck so many times here in Sega-16 that argue with you about anything is totally pointless.
Also, you keep telling how great you think you are. And I'm keep laughing about how childish one can be.
This thread is not about you... It's about a Beyond Oasis re-translation cursed by you.
