So apparently Donkey Kong Country displays 4096 colors at once...
So some youtube SNES fan decided to reply to a comment I posted months ago saying that I'm a stupid Sega Fanboy and that the SNES can display thousands of colors at once. He claims that Donkey Kong Country displays 4096 colors at once using a scanline trick.
This seems a bit weird to me. So I brought up Donkey Kong Country in bSNES and took unfiltered screenshots. I then brought them up in GIMP and had it count the amount of unique colors. And what I found was the following:
Title Screen = 253 Colors
DK's House = 160ish Colors
DK's Empty Banana Cave = 80 colors
Jungle Day = 217-240 colors
Cave = 80-112 Colors
Jungle Going dark = 160ish colors
Jungle Dark = 100ish colors
So In the first few levels DKC doesn't seem to go over the 256 colors per frame limit of the SNES. So I have a few questions to our more tech savvy people here.
1) Did I do something wrong?
2) Does DKC really display 4096 colors?
3) What is this scanline trick that this person mentioned
