I just got this in the mail and want to use it to replace the 7805 regulator in the model 1 genesis. I'm not sure on how to hook this up. Any ideas?

OK so after hooking up a multimeter to the genesis voltage regulators it is giving me 10V. Is this normal? I assume I should set my step down regulator to 10V to match.
Wow you got yours quick. I'm also interested in how this is done, as I need to use it to make a model 1 and 32x run off of the same AC adapter.

Ok Got it. It's very simple. On the step down circuit there is four pads. - In, -Out, + In, + Out. Set the output on the circuit to 4.98-5V then connect +in to pin 1 of the old 7805 spot, + out to pin 2 and either of the - spots to pin 3. I was getting the 10v reading because I was reading the voltage in not the out. I have it hooked up to a test system just to make sure it worked. Now I will go and hook it up to the neptune and I will respond back to let you know how that goes.

Well the new circuit does not seem to get hot at all. I do have a smaller heat sink on the remaining 7805.
K. I'll try some stress tests once I get mine in the mail. If anything I can pullout a heatsink from one of my dead model 2's for the remaining 7805. I may have questions for you later, though. :)

Awesome bit of gear, glad it worked for you! Still waiting for mine, but setting up the "step up" voltage regulator was identical (for my Game Gear with DSi backlight). The new regulator only needs a heatsink at 3amps so in theory you could use it to also power a sega cd.
Why have you replaced the voltage regulator?
The standard 7805 won't supply enough grunt to power both the Mega Drive and 32X

The 32X can't play Genesis Virtua Racing, so going by the official library it has about 99.9% compatibility.

So I got my regulator today, and I'm a bit perplexed. I removed the voltage regulator (7805) closest to the AC adapter and attached the regulator (see first post) as shown below:

Now, when I measured the dc voltage it measures ~11v in. So far so good. When I measure voltage out it starts at ~4.64v and dwindles down to ~1.65v and holds steady no matter how much I adjust the regulator, the values stay the same. So, I have 3 questions:
1) What am I doing wrong?
2) The OP ran the ground signal to one of the -5v in/out pad on the regulator. Would that make a difference?
3) Moving forward, assuming I get this voltage regulator sorted out, do I just have to run wire from the 3 points on the 32x AC adapter to the matching points on the Genesis? I've already removed the diode and bridged the connections shown on the pics in the first few posts.

Ok,
First thing. If you get the voltage regulator figured out you DO NOT run a wire from the 32x to the genesis. If you used tmees pic I posted before that had you remove the diode and bridge a connection then thats all you need to do to supply power to your 32x. as far as your voltage problem i don't know. If you have this connected the right way it should be fine. +in on the new board = pin 1 of the 7805, + out = Pin 2 of the 7805 and ground = Pin 3. Remember pin 3 is in the middle. Let me know if this helps or you need some more info. I did order 2 and the second one is a spare in case I need it later so if yours is dead maybe we can work something out while you wait for a replacement.
IMO, I donīt think you should solder the line to the ring. There is a marked Out-, unless itīs a ground. If so, try to ground well that cable.

Well... I am in the middle of 3 or 4 different projects and have not had time to finish the neptune. As soon as I do I will let you know. At the moment it looks like I will have to fold the 32x in half to keep it working in which case the dust flaps will not work. On my original neptune I used a dremel tool to cut everything down to fit.
