Tiny Toon Adventures 3 (Chinese pirate game)

Been playing this recently and I must say it's surprisingly good. Unlike most Chinese pirate games that have terrible controls and bad physics this one actually plays really smoothly. The graphics are nice and colourful and the music isn't half-bad. It even has a bit of back story, albeit written in really bad Engrish.

Let's hack it to rename it "Purble rabit adventures" and start selling repros of it ;)

I'm beginning to wonder where exactly in the vast recesses of totalitarian Chinese webspace does this enormous master list of games lie. These pirate titles keep popping-up as sequels to games I didn't even know existed. So, is this a sequel to any of the Part 2s on the NES? Or perhaps to the Genny's Acme All Stars and Buster's Hidden Treasure?

I've seen one on a Chinese forum that is still missing some stuff, plus it lumps the unlicensed Chinese translations and Simplified Chinese conversions together with the original things :/ And then you have the unlicensed games in the US and outside (there are two made in Argentina!) This is one of the things I'm working on compiling together... (and I should add a column for publisher)

Random fun fact: did you know all the Realtec games were also distributed in Taiwan? I think that's where the difference in the title screen name from the US box comes from...

I did know about Truco '96, since it was on a KGEN disc I got that had nearly every game dumped (from 2006, according to the dates on the disc), but I didn't know that there was also a TC2000 game by the same folks! Nice!

And after reading the Truco '96 entry on SegaRetro, I knew that the music sounded a whole lot like that of a Vic Tokai title. Didn't know they outright took it from Battle Mania 2, though. Just thought they somehow used the same sound drivers.

EDIT: Also, that TC2000 arcade game on their site, judging by the screenshots, seems to be a hack of Pole Position. Same title screen, same HUD, maybe the same circuit as well. Apparently it isn't so sure in which year it was released (site says 1988, title screen says 1989)

Pole Position? What? XD More like Super Monaco GP =P And I can tell you, it is a hack, I have confirmed that from one of the people involved. They actually used macs to do the job.

EDIT: oh wait, arcade game, not the Mega Drive one =S

That'd be awesome. Not that much hacking would be needed either, just the title page would have to be fixed and the back story needs to be re-written in actual English. Unfortunately I know nothing about hacking roms :(

This was dumped from my cartridge btw, with Azathoth's help ;)

It seems like most pirates have been found by now, there's also a Power Rangers Fighting Edition port from SNES I had dumped too. Right now the only really unknown or unconfirmed pirate for the system out there anymore is a supposed Kirby's Super Star, which I can't find any evidence of besides a memory of reading about it years ago.

BTW that link of a supposed box for Pokemon 2 is in fact the box for Pocket Monster II, the platformer. I've yet to see a box for Pokemon 2(the Harry Potter clone thing), but there is a cartridge pic I had somewhere.

Thanks man! You and Az are doing a great thing dumping these obscure Chinese pirates.

One thing about this game though, I think I reached a point where it becomes unbeatable. The fourth boss, that throws knives at you may be unkillable. There appears to be no way to avoid his knife attacks since he always throws 2 and they're spaced out just far enough that you can't jump over both of them. It really is starting to look like there is no way to not take the hit from the knife attacks and since you only have 3 hits worth of health and the bosses have something like 8-10 it isn't looking promising. I'll try it again tonight, but I doubt I'll have any more luck than I did yesterday. Too bad too, this is actually a really fun game I was going to place it as one of the top Chinese made sidescrollers right up with Squirrel King and the Pocket Monsters games, but if this boss isn't beatable then this will unfortunately have to be labeled as broken.

The knife boss is actually the final boss and I have beaten the game even though the ending is disappointing.

What you have to do is run to create enough speed and then jump (from what I remember you face away from the boss and jump, then change direction towards him), it is best to hold the run button. It takes a few tries to get the timing right and harder to hit the boss the second time before changing to its panicky slide move, so if your timing isn't right just ignore the second hit opportunity otherwise you lose health. It is possible to beat the boss without any health lost (I think that I did it once). Also a tip, the easiest way to hit him at the beginning before he performs any move is a running jump.

This is true.

You didn't even know about running? It's one of the very first things I tested when I first ever played the game, I could just tell by how slow you move it likely had one =p

But yeah the ending sucks, just a still picture of the enemies being beaten up.

I tried this game a couple of days ago. Got to the bee boss and turned it off. Not a bad game although Squirrel King is the king of unlicensed plattformer games.

I wonder how hard is it to hack the title screen and text in a game. "Serious" hackers are always giving shit to people who hack the text in a game calling them noobs and stuff. Is it actually easy or is this yet another example of Internet Tough Guy douchebaggery?

Yeah now that I know that holding A makes you run that boss is a lot easier, actually of them are. I must say that for a Chinese pirate this game is pretty decent. A bit on the short side, but then so were some official Genesis games.
