Could you add me too? I would appreciate it.

What the hell are you talking about? You don't like the two words "shut down?" Really? Ok, I thought it was a funny way to "stop" the flouride rant; is that better? The idiot is not me; Go dubunk a crop circle. :D
So I'm on his ignore list, bc he misunderstood it when I said how I liked the pic he posted; Oh well, such is life. :D
The Taliban didn't exist until the 90's. The people they fought in Afghanistan were rebels and various militant groups from all over the middle east who had traveled to Afghanistan to fight Russia. The US funded and trained these groups to humiliate the Soviet Union. When Russia decided to withdraw, Gorbachev wanted to collaborate with the US to leave the country with a stable government, the US refused the offer with the official reason being that it would be up to the Afghan people to decide. Their only goal there was to humiliate the Soviets. This all lead to the Taliban being formed and seizing power around the mid-90's.
Thanks for correcting. Too bad we made them good soldiers, now we are fighting them as well.
As a Connecticut resident (very blue state), I will say this: Right wing conservatives are complete morons and left wing liberals are pussies that won't fight for what they believe in. Conservatives say tax cuts on the rich will save the economy by creating more jobs, when they know damn well that the people receiving those tax cuts, including themselves, will just put that money into their own pockets and say they need more tax cuts until they have all the money in the country. Like communism, trickle-down sounds good on paper, but does not work in real life. Right now they're trying to take away college grants and make it so college loans need to be paid immediately, which means they want to go back to the 1700s when only the rich could be educated. Fucking greedy bastards. There's such a huge gap between the rich and poor that, if reduced, could help the economy tremendously. Not to mention the whole (well, a lot of it anyway) reason we're in this mess is because of all the money we wasted on a bullshit war that only the republicans wanted. And then there's the point that they still follow only the Bible and nothing else when they try to outlaw any freedom on demographics they consider undesirable just because of one line in a two thousand year book. Why we trust these people, I have no clue.
The Democrats suck almost as much because even though they have the right ideas like separation of church and state and equality in taxes, being fair to the poor, etc, they don't do shit about it. They've been letting the Republicans walk all over them because they're too afraid they might offend them by having their way. Truth is, they aren't poor enough, so they can't feel as passionate about the people they're fighting for, while the Republicans have the advantage of fighting for themselves. This is all kinds of wrong. So, fuck my country, I love living here but I can't have any respect for it until these maniacs stop being so goddamn selfish and lose their childish attachment to their Christian roots so my friends can have the same freedom that everyone else has and so my religion won't be looked upon as a mental illness by the military. That's my rant.
As a mildly autistic quasi-nutjob resident of a red state I will say this: left wing liberals hate poor white Americans especially if they are southern and if they could make it so wellfare went only to non whites they would. This is why poor southerners will never vote for them even if republicans are all morons and greedy bastards.
Can you explain this to me? I've never heard of liberals discriminating against white people, what makes you think they want to give welfare exclusively to non-whites? I've never heard this argument before, I've only heard that liberals maybe focus too much on racial issues, but not so much that they would be racist against whites.
Here's what I want to know...
Why the do people who make less than $50,000 a year vote Republican? The Republican party is the party of the wealthy and of corporations, so why in God's name would they vote people into office that will basically ignore them and only go after legislation that helps those that are already well off? It's never made a damn bit of sense to me, and when I see someone living in a trailer park talking about how they'd never vote anything but Republican, it's like watching some footage from Bizarro world.
Of course, I don't get why anyone would willingly label themselves a Democrat or a Republican, considering neither party is worth the room they take up.
White people who feel disenfranchised have a tendency to project their frustrations on minorities, and the right wing is generally very good at taking advantage of that.
Back when I was in jr high it seemed every black kid had one of those laminated orange cards that got them free lunch and breakfast, even the poor white kids didn’t seem to have these. I would also always hear someone talking about affirmative action on TV or radio back in the 90s. The guy on one side would want to affirmative action , and there would be the leftist who would try to say the other guy didn’t care about the poor and that’s why he wanted to end affirmative action. I would always think to myself, right because you know only blacks and merxicans are poor. And it’s just a fact that leftists like to mock rural whites and southerners, this always bothered me. Then you come across stuff like this once and a while.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opxuU...layer_embedded
He's just spouting ignorant bullshit with racists overtones. I would never take that comment seriously.
I thought this was interesting. The premise is, if you have to go through the burden of getting a drug test - that others should as well? And since it's required to get a job (which isn't exactly true. There are companies that don't require drug tests), and the end result is income.. that it somehow relates to the same thing when receiving income assistance from the government. Oh and also, because you ARE receiving assistance from the government - you SHOULD loose some rights. After all, you're now a sub-class citizen - right? That's pretty fucking wackadoo. You actually don't make any valid points; you're just disguising your overall resentment of welfare recipients.Quote:
One thing I don't get is why some people are getting worked up about the proposed law that would require ALL welfare applicants to submit to a drug test. I see no problem with it. Why should the government give you money(TAXPAYER money) if all you're going to do with it is blow it on drugs and shit that isn't necessary to survive(Escalades/BMWs)?
I submitted to a drug test when I was hired at my company so that I could EARN money. Why shouldn't they submit to a drug test when applying for FREE money? And how is it an invasion of privacy when you are on a GOVERNMENT program receiving hand-outs? My paycheck is being invaded when tax dollars are being taken out to support these programs which are being abused to no end.
Fact: The poor and lower class, being working class or welfare, are much more likely to be involved in illegal substances and middle and upper class.
Fact: Drug tests are used by companies to determine if YOU are worth the risk of investment, in working for this company. That's being reliable, showing up on time, actually being functional, not tempted to steal out of some drug habit, not embarrass the company in off hours (drug related morality issues), etc.
Fact: Drug usage in welfare recipients is irrelevant in what's required to actually be on assistance. But illegal substance usage is looked down upon morally by people that don't participate in such activities. The government pans to this mentality in a guise that they are trying to "help" the poor "get their act together" or whatever type bullshit. But in reality, the local and state and federal government are serious looking at ways to cut spending. When the general public is worried about their own income and expenses, they can't be bothered to be up in arms about this (like current state of the US economy and jobs). Only when we feel comfortable or secure in our own lives, do we feel compelled to help others. Mostly likely the core reason stemming from "guilt" of our success (which is fine and natural). Otherwise, we can't be bothered to care about such things or afford such sympathy. That's human nature.
And you call others racist?
So if they are doing drugs you think they will be busy out looking for a job. Also, any job that will ask for a drug test they can't work there. So because the drug use it limits the time they have to look for a job and can't take many jobs due to the drug test yet all of this extra expense it ok with you? How about they go to a rehab if they have such a problem?
Drugs also can be unhealthy and even deadly. You act like they are just all in fun.
I live in California and I work for a university. We have lost benefits over the years and now we are facing layoffs. Our budget is being cut. We work hard every day and show up to work.
People on welfare in California get it for life. Noncitizens also get a truck load of free benefits. Noncitizens also get free ER care where citizens will have to pay ten thousand dollars each day they spend in a hospital if they have no insurance. None of these things are getting cut, only the people that work everyday. Our prisoners cost us fifty thousand each one a year(more money than I make). In California prisoners get DSL internet, Cable or satellite t.v., libraries, air conditioning, three meals a day, gyms. Noncitizens make up 25% of our prison population. They have an added bonus of not being able to receive the death penalty. Many working people do not have all of these things. California is the worst business friendly and last in education in the nation yet we are one of the most heavily taxed states. Where is all of the money going?
Hey fellow Americans we don't have to worry anymore. According to the News the unemployment claims dropped by 7000 last month. I mean there are only like 300,000,000 is the US.. This is great news. WERE SAVED!!!
How big of a problem is this really? Big enough that the state should be burdened with testing everyone? The cost of the tests would outweigh the savings in denied benefits by far. So who really gains anything? Not the taxpayers. Only the company that gets a big fat contract from the state to give out a zillion drug tests. You're worried about budget cuts but you think we have money to throw away on this?
Everything has gotten cut. They've cut Calworks. They've cut Stage 3 child care subsidies. They've cut Medi-cal. I'm not sure what other "welfare" you're talking about, but there has not been a section of the state budget immune to cuts.Quote:

Do you not see the irony in complaining about tax money going to people on drugs, and then complaining about prisons? What do you think a large chunk of the prison population is? We could start by decriminalizing all drug charges at the state level. That would certainly reduce our costs.Quote:

I don't actually know what our prisons are like, but considering the U.S. Supreme Court ruled this year that the state of California's prisons violates the Constitution's protection against cruel and unusual punishment, I really don't think they're palaces.
California is actually not one of the most heavily taxed states. It's easy to see why a lot of people think that, as we have both a state income tax and a sales tax, whereas a lot of states only have one or the other. But our property tax is exceedingly low compared to other states. We are also the only oil-producing region in the world that doesn't tax oil.Quote:

How's the US getting on? Very poorly. Barack Obama is a paper tiger, the rich get tax cuts, corporations get bailouts, and the common person gets the shaft. Every day that goes by is another day slipping deeper into a state of self destructive, xenophobic, hyper nationalist, theocratic, plutocracy.
...I haven't been present for a while.
The United States is, sadly, being torn apart by Democrats and Republicans who couldn't run a bath between them, let alone the great nation of America. Mr Smith would have not messed up the defecit in the manner these two parties have, no way. Under Mr Smith there would have been successful investment in infastructure such as roads, railways, statue of Raul, items which will benefit the entire nation and take the country out of recession. Now things have gotten so bad, Mr Smith sees only one solution. The United States owes 26% of external debt to China, if China were destroyed then the United States would owe them nothing. We've had Reganomics this will be Defecit Nukeductions.
The Democrats and Republicans have let all US citizens down. There is no choice: Vote Smith.
There is no vote that can fix this problem.
I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
I just don't understand how so many people thought Obama was going to be the miracle cure they thought he was. Its really irritating to me. That was my biggest problem with him from the start. When he talked I just thought "Hey this guys full of shit"
I was originally going to vote for John McCain but than he brought that crazy bitch on board
I checked the McCain box and was giggling the whole time, seeing as I live in a neighborhood infested with hippies.
doesn't matter which side you vote for, the government always gets in!
I don't think it was as much naive hope as it was simply having enough of the GOP after 8 years of Bush. As it turns out, things don't change that much with the democrats since they have to play by the same rules when it comes to politics, financing campaigns and all of that stuff. The republicans just feel a lot more comfortable with the corporations that fill their pockets.
And McCain had to pretty much destroy his own integrity just to get a shot at representing the GOP.
I'll take a crappy vice pres over Obama.
And have that nutty bitch one step away from running things, right behind an old man who could drop at any moment? That's like trying to pull the single remaining bottom brick of a Jenga stack.
But the reason they voted for Obama was in part, "hope," and in part, because they knew what to expect with McCain/Palin. There was a chance things would get better under Obama, where as with McCain, it was going to be the same Republican garbage that we'd already had for 8 years (and we all saw how well that went). The McCain of '08 wasn't the McCain of years past. And if he had indeed stayed "The Maverick," he might have won. But he buckled under what the Republican party wanted, let others choose a VP for his campaign, and lost a lot of credibility in the process.
As Lewis Black once said, "... our two-party system is a bowl of shit looking in the mirror at itself." It doesn't matter who you vote for, neither party's going to make the world a better place. It's mostly voting for who you hope will make it at least a little better, and the McCain/Palin ticket wasn't going to do it.
Funny, I don't recall being 52% of the American people.
And yeah, McCain just would have had strings on his wrists, knees and head, and been dancing like the Republican marionette that he became. Sadly, Obama began doing the same thing in the last year, but at least in the beginning, there was a chance (however small) for a fresh face to come in and do better by the American people, rather than someone who showed they were marching in line to the then current Presidential party's beat.
Well I guess I'm with the other 48% I just don't agree with you. We will never convince each other so I'm going to have to leave it that.
Basically. Agree to disagree.
