the short version that could help is the fact that the US desperately needs 1-3 more political parties (and those parties need to have more then the .0001% representation that the current alternatives have). It would force more compromise, and could help weed out more stupidity.
The long version of this thought is not something I want to tap out on my phone while waiting for my ride. Maybe later.
To be fair, the debt celing/downgrade stuff was overblown in the media. Anybody looking at the situation knew it was political postering, and after 2008, the credit rating agencies don't have a lot of credibility (the point that the US needs its debt under control is valid, but the reasoning used by the agency was rather faulty). Again, short version.
Can I ask something? When Obama gave Republicans "98% of what they wanted" in the debt ceiling compromise, why are the Republicans still complaining about how horrible Obama is and how he's the reason the economy is screwed when he's just been giving them what they want?
The current economy and wars are the fault of Bush. Obama will need more time to fix this. Maybe by halfway thru his second term.
The kinds of change that Obama got elected for would take 20 years of consistent leadership. This country doesn't know the meaning of the word consistent.
