No, it isn't. It's a platformer.

It's sidescrolling (mostly) and has platforms in it, like any typical platformer.
Yeah, OK, it's a platformer-RPG then, like Ys III.
Ok, I realise this isn't the exact correct thread for my question, but I'm unable to post new threads at the mo.
I've never 'got' RPGs. Never really played em', never really wanted to. But obviously they have fans for a reason.
Can anyone recommend an RPG on the Mega Drive for a RPG virgin, such as myself? I know there are reviews of good ones, but just I'd like to know peoples opinions of good ones to try for newbies. To break me in.
Actually I lie. I played Final Fantasy VII on PS1 for a bit. But became bored to tears with having battles every two steps.
Any help would be mucho appreciated.
You're looking at the wrong console for them. If you consider "Zelda" style games to be RPGs, then Beyond Oasis, Light Crusader and Crusader of Centy are all good.
If you want actual RPGs that won't bore you to tears, you need to go SNES.
Chrono Trigger doesn't have random battles, Seiken Densetsu 3 and Terranigma have combat like a Zelda game (even though they have all the elements one would expect of a full JRPG), Tales of Phantasia has random battles, but the battles themselves are in real-time.
Final fantasy 6
