SNK fighting games

There are so many good NeoGeo and arcade fighting games made by this company.

I am amazed at the sheer quality of the early titles such as Art of Fighting 1 which actually showed your fighters faces get swollen and black eyed through the match.

Fatal Fury brought the multiplane system into the mix (at least it tried being original instead of a SF2 knock off)

Samurai Showdown I'm not a fan of but it brought weapons into the mix.

Savage Reign was just funky, I never got into but I own it and just may look into the moves lists to try and give it a go.

They also had Last Blade (probably something I would enjoy more than Samurai Showodown), I had it on Dreamcast but I hated fighters back then.

World Heroes I recently beat all of them back in 2009. I hated the last bosses in JET . Not sure if I ever got around to beating World Heroes perfect, or maybe that was the one that I hated the last bosses on and deemed it impossible? All I know is I owned and hated all the World Heroes, I forced myself through those games and ebayed the arcade boards after beating them. I will never want to play them again. Yes I beat them on Level 4 also, torture. World Heroes 1 was a joke for a last boss. Easy as cake

I strongly recommend The Last Blade 2.
But Mark of The Wolves is the uncontested king of fighting games by SNK.

One things for sure, the NEO-GEO has a fighting game infestation. I wouldn't be surprised if fighters made up roughly 50% of the entire machine's library. NEO-GEO is akin to Turbo Engine in that regard, which is the king of shooting games.

Art of Fighting was always overrated to me. Not a very noteworthy series beyond it's initial gimmicks. Fatal Fury is okay, but nothing spectacular. Samurai Shodown was a significant step forward for SNK, the first two were quality games. Last Blade rules and feels like a more sophisticated SS. I have a soft spot for World Heroes. The jawusum character selection makes it a cheesy alternative to Street Fighter. J. Max is the most kick ass fighting game character ever. I don't have much to say on KOF since I've only played 2000, but it's alright. Garou: Mark of the Wolves is probably the best fighting game SNK ever made.

I feel like thats the stuff that holds the test of time is very playable and looks great today still.

I will have to check out that Rage of the Dragons, Double Dragon fighting game right?

Double Dragon fighting game with very good graphics and a tag system. Only other true tag system like this would be kizuna but that games outdated as shit.

You weren't there. Unless you lived in a bubble, and played these games sequentially without influence, any point of expression toward argument you make on the matter is moot at best. You were shitting in diapers when these games were breaking new ground. Fatal Fury kicked ass.

SNK fighters are great, but one in particular is really awesome. SNK Vs. Capcom: Match of the Millenium for Neo Geo Pocket Color is hands-down one of the best fighting games I've played on a handheld system. I really don't think it'll ever be topped, they went all out on this one. Check it out if you've never played it before, a hidden gem for a very underrated system! :)

The first level boss(es) still creep me out.

Fatal Fury Special has ALWAYS had a place in my heart, as did Samurai Shodown. Metal Slug X kicked all sorts of ass BITD, edging out Gunstar Heroes as my favorite overall run n gun.

just re-beat Fatal Fury 1 for nostalgia sake, maan what a sluggish game. you even need to perform your inputs slower or your special to come out


Now its time for the only game that ever made me wanna pull out my hair. Fatal Fury 2 arcade edition. If I get too frustrated I will just go watch the anime for motivation

The PC Engine doesn't have too many more shooters than the Mega Drive and they only account for something like 10% of the library. There are about as many RPGs and the count is slightly higher than the Super Famicom, both by strict and loose definition of RPG. But people never call the PC Engine the "King of RPGs".

The Genesis has twice as many sports games on cart and the SNES has three times as many sports games as the PC Engine does shooters.

Only a third of Neo Geo games are fighting games. ;)

i second that. both LAST BLADE titles, especially the first, positively burst at the seams with style and class. a VERY RARE thing to find in a fighting game series...

I agree, Samurai Shodown was fun and all but Last Blade really had this classy thing going on somehow..
Its kind of like Real Bout Fatal Fury and Garou, Real Bout is really colorful and BAM!! but Garou just does it classier.

I just wish Garou felt more like a Fatal Fury game, It just feels hollow in a way, like i don't give a fuck about anybody except Rock & Terry.

re Validus = I really hope the ban's temporary, there's way too much banning going on. Too many new threads by far, but I think a temporary ban will suffice to discourage that in the future. I'd have even lobbied to revoke 16bitter's ban (yes, that odious fuck) were I not concerned that doing so would get me banned, till having seen so many "good riddance" comments from other members it became doubtful he'd even want back in. Still I don't think he was inciting any MD vs SNES war, he seemed to genuinely like Yoshi's Island and S3&K.

I was going to post something similar but thought you deserved a break. Percentages aside, you wouldn't say the Genesis has an infestation of platformers. By the way, the Saturn is the king of shooters; PS the viceroy.

Making a ton of threads doesn't get you banned, otherwise evil_ash_xero would have been banned.
I think I know why he was banned, but I'm not gonna discuss it till a mod says it for sure.

Actually no. Recently he was the biggest offender.
Even the worst offender of all, xDragonWarriorx, wasn't banned because of the threads.

Seems you've figured it out.

Fatal Fury 2's last boss is very difficult. You must trap him by jumping back and forth between planes. When he blocks (and if you are close enough) try to throw him or hit him with a strong attack (depending on character) punch or kick.
