Video Games You Love That Most People Hate
Seems to be a "Video games you regret.." theme on Sega-16. In that vein, what are the games you shamefully admit to liking? Just horrible games you still come back to. I'll start with my top 5:
1. Super Pitfall
This game gets a bad rap. Negative comments from "Mario clone" to "horrible music" get thrown at this title. To be honest, every system gets its typecast genre. N64 had 3D platformers. SegaCD had FMV games. NES just had many side-scrolling platformers. What killed Super Pitfalls music wasn't lazy composers: they tried to be faithful to that limited music heritage it had including Pitfall II.
2. Battlemaster
Okay, this game scrolls like a granite block on rubber. Cheap sinkhole traps and overpowered enemies abound. I guess the fact you could cheat back and long distance spam kept me going.
3. Mixed Up Mother Goose
This tells you the power of Sierra back in the day. As long as it used the AGI system I was on it even if the title was meant for bed-wetters on down.
4. Saga Frontier
Oblivion game designers should have been forced to play this before implementing "level with you" enemies. Oh, and the stories in English made less sense than Romancing Saga in Japanese - and I can't READ Japanese!
5. As teenagers me and my classmates would sarcastically joke about snagging a copy of Shove-It. Just the name begs for degradation. Sadly, I now own a copy and love it! So many levels! I actually dig the 80's FM groove cheese that they chose to go with for music. Hey! if you like Sokoban then you can Shove-It!
