Does anybody know how to make a custom avatar on NeoGeo forums ? Why is it all preset avatars?
Sorry, what I meant about resellers is people who buy stuff on the forums and then stick it up on eBay to make a profit. The thing I love about that place it that if you're into the games and don't have a huge budget, people are still willing to work with you on stuff.
Maybe I've been to harsh on Neo-Geo.com. There are some genuinely good people in the marketplace, tech support and general Neo discussion forums.
But yeah, outside of that, the forum is a hopeless, hateful mess...
Sega-16 - Best forum I've ever been on by far. Great Community, very helpful and some very interesting discussions. I'll probably be here till I die, even though I don't post a lot.
NintendoAge.com - Annoys the hell out of me as soon as I get there. I really can't take the layout enough to even start reading posts.
Racketboy.com - Not enough active members, and way too many threads for me to handle. They move far too fast.
Nintendodaily.org - My friends site, I'm a mod there. Has potential but not even close to enough members yet.
Lemon64 - Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, pretty good site.
I would definitely not place PC engine FX on good list. see this-

Look at how they rip Raiden for SG and one PCE fan says that most SG shooters suck.
I really don't see this at all . . . and I don't really know of the programmers you're talking about either. (I know of a few prominent members on the site who used to work for Atari in various areas -be it Atari Inc or Corp, not sure about Games, but I can't think of anyone who fits your description -and I can't imagine you mean Ted Dabney since he rarely posts, is very polite when he does, and wasn't an Atari programmer at all)
That's just odd . . . I've been a happy Atariage member for over 2 years now and I've seen some of these complaints before, but the thing about Chickbaby is just weird (and I agree that she did seem like one of the better mods on the site). It's especially odd that she'd be banned rather than stripped of MOD privileges, unless AA is one of those forums with separate accounts for moderators in addition to normal user accounts. (I didn't think that was the case though)
I stopped posting on AA for a while (towards the end of June), so I think I missed some of what was going on. (albeit I might have missed it anyway depending on the forums it took place in)
Gorf getting banned was no surprise to me, I liked him and never had trouble personally, but his attitude often got the better of him with others.
Some members stayed on there far too long without being banned too, Atariksi comes to mind in particular. (though he used to be more of an average member with occasional troll-ish/fanboyish tendencies, the whole mess towards the end with the analog vs digital joystick thread, etc, changed that considerably)
Same for me . . . I behave exactly the same as I do on Sega-16 or any other forums I've used, and I've never had any problems. (the only thing remotely close would be mods trying to keep a discussion on-topic, though they're only moderately stricter about that than on Sega-16 -ie barely at all ;))
If anything, moderators don't step in often enough in some areas, and I've definitely seen far more cases where warning/bannings should have been issued (but weren't) than cases where they were issued unfairly. (actually I can't think of any of the latter occurring in any discussion I've been involved with, or any older threads I've read through either)
It's not just Anti-NES or Anti-C64 either, there's just a lot of polarized oppinions in general. Plenty of members think the NES is fine, more so for the C64, and there's a fair amount on the other side (arguing against certain Atari platforms).
Some members like the ST and C64, but dislike the A8, some like the 7800 but not the 5200 (or vice versa), some like the Amiga and will criticize the ST, etc, etc.
(honestly, I can only think of 1 member with truly universal distain for the NES, and the few others who come close to that tend to be from the US -the one in particular, who shall remain nameless, is in the US though)
Some others experess disinterest or dislike for some of the art styles or game genres appearing in the NES's time period in general, but many of them are far more reasonable (non-fanboyish) members.
And then there's the historical discussions independent of specific platforms. (especially the management discussions, or various information that Curt and Marty bring forward . . . and there have been some nasty arguments over new information that conflicts with commonly held myths -especially the things over Bushnell and Jack Tramiel)
I've learned to get by in spite of that, and it hasn't turned me off enough to avoid any of the forums . . . or to put anyone on ignore. (something I've never had to do on an forum . . . yet, though sometimes I decide not to respond to certain posts)
PCFX - There used to be serious drama there a few or so years ago, and it was quite active back then. Now, it's much more quite. Fans are very dedicated to the console (it's mostly TG16/PCE), but I'd say almost all the members own other systems as well (Genesis, SNES, whatever). It's not as active as it used to be, but a lot of good information to be found there. Also, there's not special requirement to get in. They just take forever to approve people's registrations. I guess this is a good thing if it prevents trolls.
Sega-16: Obviously I enjoy the site a lot - I think the boards have gone downhill over time; the older crowd from the early days seems to have moved on and most of the regulars now are younger posters or newbies. This would be fine except that there are lot of people making authoritative arguments about things they aren't very educated on. There's also often a frankly bizarre anti-modernism "I hate FPS, I hate 3D, I hate etc etc" that goes beyond the usual retro-gaming preference. That's probably why I'm not here as often, I guess.
NeoGAF: The pulse of the gaming world, pretty much. If you browse here you know what's happening as it happens, and it can get very addictive. There's also such a huge amount of traffic that there's always something new to read. I'm here most of my forum time these days, just reading.
Racketboy: Super friendly community with a really refreshingly open stance on burning games and emulation and such.
SegaAge: A small cluster of people who seem to know their shit very well, but the boards are generally very inactive. I'll keep my eye on it, it's brand new after all.
DigitPress: Very educated on a broad variety of topics. Many interesting threads to read but nothing for me to really contribute to.
Sega-Saturn Forums: Good people, but too PAL-centric for a NTSC gamer to really crack into.
AssemblerGames: Embarrassingly elitist, but they know their stuff. Nothing really to post on, just interesting information.
