Can't come to think of anything special, maybe Inglourious Basterds or Broken Flowers (if you can count it).
Geez, recent years. That is a tough one.
I really enjoyed Tron: Legacy.
^Really? I couldnt get into it. Maye because it was a DVD not a Bluray. I gotta watch the bluray version.
Just Go With It (adam sandler 2011)
Hmm...
Inception... in fact anything Chris Nolan touches is genius (so far).
I really liked Cop Out, to be honest (I know it was bad, but I thought it was really funny.)
The Fighter was great. A well deserved Oscar for Christian Bale.
How "recent" are we talking?
I think within the last couple of years I really liked:
Let the Right One In, Inglorious Basterds, and Avatar.
If anyone has a problem with those....

As far as the last 2 years go, my favorites have been Winter's Bone, Inception, Winnebego Man and Up.
Diary of the Dead. Its like the Blair Witch project...but good! An entire zombie movie seen from the PoV of someone with a camcorder. Its a movie entirely from a first person perspective!
Diary of the Dead is a fucking abomination.
It's gone downhill after Dawn. Romero, just stop.
I thought that "The Time Machine"(2001) was a pretty good movie. Although I'm still not sure if you'd consider that recent enough.
One movie I can think of that was okay, but definitely not great was "The day after Tomorrow"(2004). It was okay the first time I watched it, but the Science teachers in my High School played this movie to death, and now I'm just sick of it.
My Winnipeg is quite good too.
Fighting(2009), They could have made this a Fatal Fury movie. The city could have passed as southtown, especially the subway a la Duck King stage in Fatal Fury 1. All it needed was the main character having a brother and name them Andy and Terry, the street tournament they entered could have been named King of Fighters tournament and it woulda been an SNK movie.
Expendables. All it was missing was Chuck Norris, and digitally super imposed Raul Julia.
Yeah, it was. At least with the Extended Cut I could actually make out the fight scenes. I agree with you about the editing though.
The Other Guys is pretty freaking hilarious. "You won't shoot me" "I shot Jeter" "That was an accident" "Was it?"
Saw Columbiana the other day. Great popcorn flick, two hours of action. Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen really know how to write em.
The Adjustment Bureau was good.
Avatar is overrated, IMO. Not as bad as haters make it out to be, but a pretty shallow move, everything considered.
I agree, it did not deserve the praise it got. There's lots of better movies out there, This generation is too wrapped up in CGI if you ask me. I miss the old days when it was real, and you actually had to stop and use your brain to make a good movie. Now all they do is think of one thing they believe is cool, and pay someone to create it on a computer.
Yes, I loved this movie.
District 9 and Super 8 I thought were both fantastic, highly recommended (heh, two alien movies with numbers).
Inglorious Basterds, obviously, and Scott Pilgrim vs the World if that fits your tastes. Then there's the superhero movies, X-Men First Class and Captain America I thought were both good. Source Code was suprisingly interesting.
Otherwise, go with what the Oscars tell you- Avatar, Hurt Locker, King's Speech, Inception, Toy Story 3, etc.
