After much thought, i'd have to say that Edward Randy is probably one of my favorite arcade games, and also one that receives very little attention.
The PCB has 2 FM synthesizers and 1 PSG, and the result is pure joy to the ears: HuC6280, YM2203 ,YM2151. You can hear the 6280 in some of the music!
As a BIG fan of 80s arcade games, there are three which I think don't get enough credit:

Three of my favorite arcade games, and they can't be ported properly because they use special types of controls :( Awesome-looking cabinets too, I love playing these in the arcades :D

Tempest may be on a lot of all-time greats list, but you just don't see it get the recognition that the other greats like Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Centipede, Galaga, Asteroids, Star Wars, etc. Heck, Tron even made it to KLOV's Top Ten List. It's not obscure, but Street Fighter 3 was definately underappreciated back in the day. I'm pretty sure I was the only one playing it, everyone else was playing either Xmen vs SF, Tekken, or Soul Edge.

Clessy: A small fun fact: Slipstream runs on Sega hardware (System 32, the same one that powered games like OutRunners and Rad Mobile)
And it does look amazing.
ON TOPIC: One I think that's really underrated (and obscure too) is Namco's 1994 awesomeness The Outfoxies. One of the best arcade games ever made IMO. Shame it never got a console port.

Power Instinct is awesome, they get better as the series progresses as far as I know. But even part one is very enjoyable. I dabbled a bit with it the other day.

4. Darius Twin (to play this on three horizontally overlapping CRT screens was amazing for the time)

Tempest has no really special controller. It could probably be ported to the Atari 7800 and make use of the 2600 driving controller. That would be awesome to play.Quote:

I saw them play this on Starcade once and I was amazed such a game even existed.
Major Havoc - I recently discovered this in Game Room, and I think it's really neat. I like how it mixes together Breakout, a Galaga-esque shooting sequence, and platforming through a maze into a single stage. I can't believe I'd never heard of it before; most of Atari's games are fairly well-known.
Hyper Crash - another game I discovered in Game Room; this game is badass. I have yet to beat it because it basically requires you to not fail, ever, in order to win, but it's really fun. It's sort of like Road Fighter, but with the camera placed behind you, and you can flip over and crash into other drivers in order to wreck their vehicles :cool:
King & Balloon - this is a really old shooter by Namco, which takes Galaxian (it even used the same sound effects and engine), but throws in a novel twist by introducing a King that runs underneath your cannon, whom you have to defend. The enemies are balloons, which sweep and dart down to the bottom of the screen, in order to try and capture the king. You have to keep them from taking him off the screen, or else you lose a life. You yourself can "die" as many times as possible, but if the King gets taken away three times then your credit runs out. It's also one of the first (if not the first?) arcade games to use voice synthesis for when the King gets taken away, and I think it's cute :p
X-pert74: I recently discovered Major Havoc on one of the DS Atari compilations (Atari's Greatest Hits Vol. 2), and I really liked that one.
