What systems have you had, and currently own?

I was just thinking of all the systems I have owned, and now own, and I thought i'd bore you to tears and tell you about them. And I expect you to do the same to me!

1) Atari 2600- My mom bought me a used one, in, like, 84(a bit late, don't you think?) Got rid of it sometime in the late 80's
2) NES- I snagged this life-changer around 85 or 86. Got rid of it, probably in 90 or 91(Genesis was out, and I wasn't really into going 8-bit again). Someone gave me another one(for free) in the late 90's. Got rid of it a few years ago.
3) Sega Genesis- This was the 1989 model. Got rid of it around 92. Got my second one(a model 2) around the time Sonic 3 came out. Still have that one. I had another Model 1 that I got around 97, but I got rid of it a few years ago. This was before I learned about the "sound difference" in the systems. Oh well, I'll get another Model 1, at some point.
4) TurboGrafx-16- I can't really remember when I got this, but it was when it first came out. I returned it after a brief period of ownership. All I had was Bonk and Legendary...Axe? I can't remember. I was unimpressed. However, I JUST got a PC Engine DUO(RGB Mod), that I really like. PC Genjin 2, is so much better than Bonk, isn't it? It's not my favorite system, but it's got some worthy games(mainly on the Super CD)
5) Super NES- Got my first one in 92. Still have it, but it just broke down. Just bought two more.
6) Sega Saturn- I own two of these. Got the first one on release day(remember the surprise release?!), and got the second one cheap, when it was announced that Sega was no longer going to support it. Got it modded, and it's the one I still use.
7) Sony Playstation- I bought the first one on release day. I still can't remember when I sold it off. I got another one, that was modded in 97 or so. I still have that one.
8) Nintendo 64- Release day. Got rid of it the same day I got rid of my second NES. A few years ago. I never really liked this machine at all.
9) Gameboy Color- Got it when it came out. Just got rid of it a few weeks ago. I never used it for ANYTHING.
10) Sega Dreamcast- 9/9/99. Still have this one.
11) Sony Playstation 2- I've had way too many of these. I got the fat one, on launch day. Got rid of it for a modded slim, around 2006. Now, I own two modded slims, and one slim with an HD(also modded). I also have two mod chips, just in case! This system reinvigorated my lust for gaming. I had lost some interest with the N64/Dreamcast/Gameboy Color.
12) Nintendo Gamecube- Got it around the time the RE games started coming out on it. Got rid of it, right before I got the Wii(since I knew the Wii would play the GC games).
13) Nintendo DS Lite- I got this shortly after this version of the DS was released. I have two of them. It also showed me that I really missed out on the GBA. It had a kickin' catalog.
14) XBox 360- I waited on this one. I got it the year Ace Combat 6 and Ninja Gaiden 2 came out for it. It died a year later. I have a Japanese one now, and it's still working.
15) Nintendo Wii- A couple of years ago, maybe? I got it strictly for emulation, and playing my GC games. I own 2 WHOLE Wii games for it. What a great system! Well, I am looking forward to La-Mulana(well, the English version...the JP version is really hard to play...too much text). This one is soft-modded all to hell.
16) Sony PSP- I can't remember which model this one is. Nor can I remember exactly when I got it. It was just a couple of years ago though. I wasn't going to get one, but my friend showed me his, and I thought the system was pretty cool. Not much on it, and most of the good stuff is coming to PS3. Oh well...
17) Playstation 3- I also waited on this one. I got a slim, right before GOW III came out. Still have this one.

So, that's my stuff. Never had a Atari 5200, 7800, Jaguar, Lynx....3D0, and all that other stuff. I think I primarily got the good ones. But i'm sure they're some people that really love their Jaguars(poor demented souls).

I'd recommend a DS or DS Lite(not a DSi). You can play your GBA games on it, and it has some pretty sweet games of it's own.

You know, the Rapture in Revelation, the end of the world. IDK, I guess I was reaching. Going New Testament was probably a stretch. Of course we are talking 128 bit vs 16 bit though.

@ evil_ash_xero = Don't be so sure about your Model 2, mine sounds at least as good as my HDG, plus its coaxial means I get stereo w/o having to run an rca splitter from a headphone jack. (Assuming most owners of Model 1s have only the rca set). Both sound much superior to Kega.

My list in full would suck. I too have a modded PS1 from `97, after my first broke twice, except that it no longer reads burns and the chip's only use is for imports. I also have multiple PS2s, but then I don't believe anybody's managed all these years on just 1.

It first came out in 1989. Bonk didn't come out until the next year.

As for my own console history:
1) Atari 2600, 4 switch woodgrain model. It was technically my older brother's. Had it for as long as I can remember. Sold it in the early 90s along with all our Atari games. Wish I hadn't.
2) NES. Got it for my 9th birthday in 1988. (i'm sure of this because we got the last issue of Nintendo Fun Club and the first issue of Nintendo Power.) I still have... the motherboard. My older brother decided it would be fun to spray us with the fire extinguisher one saturday afternoon - while we played Ghosts n' Goblins. We had the blinkingest NES in the whole neighborhood. Sold most of our games for it in the early 90s. Again, Wish I hadn't.
3) SNES. Got it for Xmas in 1991. Allegedly it was a display model that my oldest brother, a grocery(?!) store manager, somehow got his hands on. Still have this one. it's a nice golden brown these days.
4) PlayStation. My younger brother saved up for this one. Outside of Castlevania:SotN, I was unimpressed. I became a PC gamer around this time.
5) retro mania! I realized PCs just lacked a certain... something. I started picking up old videogame systems and games; one of the first was the Turbografx, and I quickly added a NES, Genesis, and Master System, and even the Saturn; this was in 1998, just as the Saturn was being axed.
6) Dreamcast: got this for Xmas of 1999. 'twas awesome. its demise sent me back into the throes of retro gaming.
7) spent most of the period between 2001 and 2006 fattening my retrogame collection.
8) Wii: got it launch night, and had a blast with it long into that night. most people seemed to lose interest in it after a while; I didn't. My system started having disc reading trouble, so I sent it to Nintendo for repairs; they sent it back to me with, literally, a screw loose in the disc tray. I sent it back again, and they replaced it with a new one. Sadly, this meant that all my Super Smash Bros. Brawl achievements were lost. le sigh. Since getting the new one back, I've been rediscovering all the Gamecube games I missed out on.
9) Got an Xbox360 for Xmas. I was afraid that this system would be for FPS players only, but it's actually quite diverse. These days I mostly play Rock Band 3 on it.
10) I recently added an XEGS, a 7800(post-crash-8-bit trifecta complete!) and a Vectrex to my collection.

Portables) I'm sketchy on the dates here, but: I got a game boy sometime before I got the SNES. it was destroyed when my dad insisted I leave it in the car while we went shopping. I think I had Tetris and Super Mario Land. Sometime after that, we got a Game Gear: it came with columns, and they also got me Revenge of Drancon. This system perished under the corner of a rocking chair, breaking its screen. Eventually, we got a second game gear with Sonic 2. I gave that one up to a repair shop when my AC adapter pin bent, but I inexplicably blamed this on the system. The repair shop lost it. They replaced it with another unit that I still have.
For shits and giggles, in the late 90s, I got a game.com. it's as bad as everyone says. Still have it.
I went to Japan in 2001, and brought home a Wonderswan Color with me. Still have it.
Bought a Nintendo DS several years ago. Still have it, though I think it needs repairs.

Things I would eventually like to get: an Odyssey2, a ColecoVision, a Lynx, an FM-Towns Marty*, a Neo-Geo, a PC-FX, a 3do, an Amiga CD32, and a Neo-Geo pocket.
*: not gonna happen.

In chronological order - NES, Genesis, 3do, n64, SNES, Gameboy Advance, Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2, DS, Xbox.
I also have a PS3 and Wii, but they technically belong to roommates.

Wish list - recently I have been researching the Sega Saturn, and it looks pretty badass - Saturn Bomberman, Die Hard Arcade, Guardian Heroes and Panzer Dragoon stand out particularly.

Currently yes. I do intend to get myself a megadrive and some real games, but no more than 20-30 including sega-cd games. I'm not a colector.
I hate 50 fps crap, and since I'm european, to get a good experience I'd have to get an old american TV too... Even my TV no longer works (lasted almost 14 years though).

Emulators are fine.

When it comes to retro gaming, I almost never use real hardware anymore.

I've found this to be the consensus of people that grew up with emulators available to them (I'm not saying you are of that generation, just making an observation). For whatever reason, I still need the real thing. Emulators are a way to see if a game is worth spending more than 8 bucks for.... that's my financial limit for a cold impulse buy.
