Am I the only one....

Who actually thinks Rocket Knight Adventures is even better than the Sonic the Hedgehog games? No, I shit you not. There's just more charm to it if you ask me, and I prefer the gameplay. It's the perfect level of challenge for an easy going gamer like myself: Easy, but not too easy. And the game is just kickass. With that said, I love all the Sonic games on the Genny (except 3D Blast, which can go die in a hole for all I care) but I think I might just prefer Rocket Knight.

Oh, and I know I haven't posted in a while.

Am I the only one... That finds green bold text to be annoying to read, more so on a white background?

I don't like RKA more than Sonic 2 or 3&K, but I like it more than Sonic 1 for sure.

So don´t take it personal, GamingMisfit. Topics get repeated, but that´s just natural seeing the number of things to discuss about a system from 23 years ago is limited.

For me personally, I wouldn´t compare Sonic and RKA much gameplaywise... they are quite different. I do however prefer the colorful graphics of Sonic to the brownish stuff in RKA.

Thanks man. And yes, I would say that the game's styles are indeed a bit different. Since the classic Sonic games are mostly revolving around the physics and the momentum, but RKA is more so about using the Rocketpack and in some cases it involves some timing.

The reason for the comparison though is that both are highly looked on platformers for the Genesis/Megadrive. I was curious if anyone else agreed with me.

Well I 1/3 agreed with you :p, that's something at least.

Nah. If you look at the first post of that closed thread (started by a banned member) it says about PS3 and PSP.

If you like it better than you like it better. I have played the sonic series so many times that I usually play RKA over Sonic nine times out of ten anyways.

I prefer Rocket Knight Adventures to the Sonic games. When I was a kid I didn't have Sonic (or RKA for that matter), but when I got it I was surprised that it wasn't as 'fast' as people say. You go fast, get hit and stop, and go fast again... unless you know the levels perfectly to avoid everything then it's a go fast, go slow headache. And I don't know the levels! That being said it's still fun, I played some Sonic 2 the other day and had a great time, but RKA is a lot easier to pick up and go with.

I love Rocket Knight Adventures. It's one of the best platformers on the Genesis, for me it stands with Sonic 2 and Ristar as a game that every platforming fan needs to own.

@ Nunzio = I could've told you Sonic's slow. Even in 2. Much slower than the real (NES) Marios and, eg, Kid Chameleon. Nonetheless excellent games, 1 and 2, add to which the homebrew Megamix (very good, at any rate).

When I got thrashed for just post in the wrong forum, that still has an ambiguous description, you just moved it and gave all the prize to Chilly Willy. It's just interesting how the judgement and words can vary depending on who is posting...

About that playgeneration thing... you just used a bad choice of words. The guy in that thread never said the word "playgeneration", but you did... and you probably didn´t know, but we have a user (a bit inactive these days) of that name, so it was easy to misunderstand. Peace, man. :)

It is a bit sloppier than Sonic and some parts are needlessly hard or frustrating. Sonic is more refined and approachable.

Plus as far as original ideas come, this is based off of Sonic, so I find it hard to say a 'knock off' is better than the original source material when the quality is roughly the same.

Quite frankly, I've gotten more reported posts about you than any you've reported about anyone else, so that may have something to do with your perception of people being against you. While RKA is a great platformer, I don't think it is better than ANY of the Sonic games. It's almost on par with Sonic 1, but not quite.

I have to recognize that I've made countless misjudgments, specially when I first became more active. For my own stupid nature and way of thinking, I didn't realize that any of my nasty words could hurt people in real life or just make this great place unfriendly for good people, new members, regular members... Everybody.
Many times I've acted like a baby that lost his favorite little toy. I've tried to change my behavior in the last weeks and people like sheath really contributed to it...

It was not my intention to sell such idea, I was (or I'm, since nobody changes that fast...) completely childish and stupid.
I don't have the perception that everybody is against me, I never had. I've had many quite good moments here. But I have caused/jumped in many useless and pointless bad discussions and flaming fights. Specially at the beginning I have insulted many users for no rational reason. So I'm not surprised by the great amount of reports that I got.

It's an odd comparison.
I would say that I played and I'll play any classic Sonic game (Sonic 3D and Spinball do not count) countless times more than RKA. The classic Sonic games have a unique pick-up-and-play feeling...
OTOH, I think that RKA is more complex game and provides a deeper playing experience. Maybe I could say that it's a better game than any Sonic one, but all this aspects are very subjective.

The palette is a timberyard of maple spattered with those sheeny bits such as in Lightening Force that make impressionable Genesis gamers wet their knickers. yeh...its most certainly a great game!!

personally, i hadnt played RKA until recently, i didnt play it 'first time around'...in fact, i hadnt even heard of it til i started re-collecting again some years ago...(mainly due to me not playing the MD much after 92 or very early 93...i think RKA was released in 93?)

anyway - ill always have a soft spot for the sonic series, although these days id plump for a play on RKA over any sonic game simply cos its 'newer' to me

No one here should goad anyone on though, so please report any posts that you think do that. That's fair enough I guess, I just have to say I disagree on all counts. For the record, I've never met anyone who proclaimed themselves a fan of the Genesis who didn't love RKA. What, in your opinion, are the good Genesis platformers, then?

Funny how I was a huge RKA fan and yet I didn't bother with the Genesis and SNES sequels. I guessed I figured that since RKA was so great, a sequel wouldnt be able to improve upon it.

Sparkster (the sequel) was not really bad, but it doesn't even compare to the first. I thought the visuals in the first one (RKA) were nice and crisp looking, but the second one attempts to look too furturistic and advanced, when the simple cartoon design was good enough.

I can however recommend the PSN/XBLA games.
