Best PS1 games not released in the US ?

Awesome -- thanks, Barone. Your expertise with racing games is formidable as always! And since this list is copied verbatim from PlayStationCollecting, there are probably a bunch of errors that need to be vetted.

Interesting that Max Power Racing has advantages over the other releases, that's exactly the kind of info I love finding out about.

BTW just in case there's any doubt, I definitely think there's plenty of non-shovelware in the list. In fact I think the PAL and PAL+NTSC/J releases are some of the more interesting games in the PS1 library.

I've been playing Buttsubushi lately (having dropped it for a while). The main game mode is nothing special, but the puzzle mode is interesting and clever. Apparently it's the developer's only non-porn game...and, well, at least they knew their way around a UI!

Got it. Should I move Wip3out Special Edition to the PAL+JPN set, or remove it completely from both lists? I'm not a Wip3out expert at all.

This game is fantastic, fantastic on N64 and probably better on PS1 because the controller isn't funky.

It has one extra track and one extra car when compared to the C3 original release.
It also has some bug fixes (I don't know the complete list but there are minor fixes).

The extra car is a modified 1996 Ford Escort RS2000, which was feature in the magazine issue released along with the game.
The 90s RS2000 is a legendary car, (featured in some great rally games) with a history both in rally and tuning competitions. So its presence in the roster here is a big plus for aficionados.

There's a lot of crap in the European-exclusives but also some of the most advanced engines of that gen and a few "hidden gems".

I think the PS1 has the best puzzle library ever, by far. There's a lot of arcade ports, a lot of peripheral support, a lot of detailed well-drawn 2D Japanese ones, lots of collections of old games in their native resolutions, etc.
