Which system has better rpgs, Genesis or Snes?

I chose not to vote, as I really couldn't decide. SNES may have more RPGs, but that doesn't mean anything unless they're "quality titles". My favorite RPGs on the SNES were "Lufia II", "SoulBlazer", "Secret of Mana", and "Final Fantasy III/VI". I honestly never knew what the big fuss was over "Chrono Trigger", it was okay, but no great title in my opinion, And I despised "Earthbound".

For the Genesis RPGs, some of my favorites were the "Phantasy Star" series, "Ys III", "Shining in the Darkness", and if count tactical RPGs, the "Shining Force" series, which are the best tactical RPGs I've ever played.

If including CD games, then overall it's PCE>SFC>MD, whether sticking to pure JRPGs or including not-so-far-off variations. If sticking to carts, then it's SFC>MD>PCE.

But if you discount overall quantity and stick to judging the "best" games, the MD and SFC are close and even simply overall they're not so far off. The problem is that most people don't even have simply JRPGs in mind as a measure, instead so many people seem to be going by how 'SNES-JRPG-like' any games are.


If you judge the SNES and PSX by their original RPGs, I'd stick with the SNES no contest. But I'm someone who enjoys the SNES FF's but I don't like FFVIII & IX.


If the Shining Force games count, I'd rather have them than the entire SFC library. But I'm not judging things solely by personal preference.

Have to give it to the Mega Drive here. Phantasy Star IV alone is better than 100% of the SNES library. Then there is great stuff like Shining Force, Shining Force II, Shining in the Darkness, Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star III, Sorcerer's Kingdom, Traysia, Warsong etc. Could mention many more but then someone will hand over a protest for one of the following reasons:

• It doesn't count because it's on Mega-CD (however, when listing great TG-16 games, its CD games always count for some reason).
• It doesn't count because it's released in recent years. I mean, don't you even TRY to enjoy Beggar Prince on your Mega Drive/Genesis, FORBIDDEN!!!
• It doesn't count because it's an action-RPG, even though Secret of Evermore counts on the SNES side.
• It doesn't count because it's, well, an "action-adventure". Sure, Landstalker has more in common with Ecco the Dolphin than, say, Ys IV.
• It doesn't count because it's developed outside of Japan. Sorry, RPGs HAVE TO be Japanese, otherwise they don't count as RPGs!
• It doesn't count because it's only released in Japan. But Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean count for some reason. Hmm...
• It doesn't count because I like it, when it's only their opinion that counts.

I'll admit, I didn't like Traysia either. The battles were so slow that I could cook dinner and eat it before a battle was over. I just couldn't get into it.

Heres another thing thats very telling imho. One of the best rpgs for the Genesis is a bootleg Chinese game Brave Battle Saga. That speaks worlds. I'd say its in the top 3 best genesis rpgs.

I hate the belief that there is no such thing as a wrong opinions. Its silly its how facts are are made. Popular vote proves a point who cares about the under dogs.

Zebbe brought up such a stupid point the other day. He said "oh so since Obama won he must be a great President." Obviously he was better of the choice or the popular vote wouldnt of let him win.
