There was one particular guy who claimed Nintendo had pretty much invented everything from motion controls and analogue pads to platformers and handheld games consoles. Despite every single one of his claimed Nintendo innovations being proved wrong he still tried to claim he was right.
Another guy simply refused to believe that the NES wasn't a success in the UK and just kept quoting a comment from the Official Nintendo Magazine that said the NES was the most popular console of its generation here. Again this was despite proof that both the SMS and Atari 2600 vastly outsold the NES.
Then there are several folks who refuse to believe that people can't not like Mario and Zelda games and if you dare say anything bad against them they go off on a tirade against you telling you that its fact they are the best games ever made and if you don't like playing them then you are lying and a troll.
You just have to love Nintendo fans. Kinda like you love your special needs cousin. Except your special needs cousin is a substantially smarter, far more productive member of society.
I like to see how much ignorance a Nintendo fanboy can show using just a couple of words...
Also, they all share the same set of "opinions":
1)"SNES pad is the best ever made since Sony reused its design for the Playstation controllers."
2)"Genesis games are far inferior, it has a few good games and they're exclusives."
3)"SNES is better 'cause Nintendo is better than Sega. Proof: Nintendo is alive, Sega is dead."
4)"Sonic games are tosh... SMW is the best game ever."
5)"Genesis RPGs are shit."
6)"Gunstar Heroes could have been done in the SNES and it would be better."
7)"SNES is faster than Genesis, it's just a matter of good programming skills."
8)"Mode 7 games put Genesis to shame."
9)"Final Fight series is better than Streets of Rage hands down."
10)"Every game in the SNES sounds better than its Genesis version."
11)"SNES sound is not muffled, you just need a good stereo."
12)"Genesis pad sucks for fighters, it has only 3 buttons."
13)"Samurai Shodown is much better on the SNES, it has Earthquake and dolby surround!!!!!"
14)"99.9% of cross platform games are better on the SNES."
15)"SNES is stereo, Genesis is mono."
16)"SNES pads have L and R buttons, so they are much better than Genesis 6-Button controllers."
17)"Genesis is faster 'cause it uses less colors."
18)"Genesis sounds like crap. SNES sound as good as CD consoles."
19)"DKC is the best game ever, SMW is the second one."
20)"Genesis is all about Sonic games, the rest is crap."
Oh I know the difference just fine. They didn't invent any of the things listed and I don't really think they innovated them either.
There were several consoles, including the Saturn, with great analogue pads before the N64 came along, the Gameboy came out at almost exactly the same time as the Atari Lynx which is far superior, the Philips CDi had motion controls that worked very well indeed well before the Wii (you could argue they didn't exploit them which is a different matter alltogether) and there were loads of great platformers before the likes of Super Mario Bros came out (especially if you grew up with an 8-bit computer)
The Lynx has better hardware, but this doesn't mean it's better than the Gameboy. Going by your logic, the Jaguar is far superior to the SNES and Genesis.
The CDi motion controls were a halfassed effort and barely worked. It's like comparing the powerglove to the Wiimote.
Again, you're just listing things that came on the market before Nintendo introduced them. This has nothing to do with innovation.
Here are a few definitions of innovation:
“The ability to deliver new value to a customer” (Jose Campos)
“Innovation does not relate just to a new product that would come into the marketplace. Innovation can occur in processes and approaches to the marketplace” (David Schmittlen)
“Change that creates a new dimension of performance” (Peter Drucker)
I think you'll agree that all of these definitions are applicable to what Nintendo has done with their products.
Too many people don't understand the difference between the words invention and innovation, and use them interchangeably. It's annoying :?.
Also most genesis RPGs are shit :p.
WHY CAN'T I REP YOU?
:(
Erm . . . .
The Lynx is superior to the Gameboy in pretty much every way. It has about 5 bad games in its whole library and some of the best arcade conversions on any console bar none. The Jaguar however has a large amount of shit games and was a market failure unlike the Lynx.
Do you own a CDi? Because I do and the motion controls work superbly, especially with the light gun. One again I think my point stands.
And no I don't agree that any of those definitions are applicable to Nintendo. You would fit in really well over at Retro Gamer Forum trying to pass off opinion as fact.
You're doing the same.
I think we can safely agree on the fact that the Gameboy is by far the superior handheld when it comes to sales. Whether you think the Lynx had a better game library or not is your opinion and is debatable, but is obviously not shared by the vast majority of the population that used to own handhelds in the early 90s.
If you think that those definitions do not apply to Nintendo, then feel free to explain why.
Sales yes, but sales do not equal innovation.
I have often seen people say (in fact Retro Gamer magazine themselves said it who are known for their Nintendo bias) that the Lynx has the best good to bad games ratio of any console. This might be opinion but its certainly one that A LOT of people share.
I don't think they apply because I don't believe that Nintendo really innovated very much. The only reason they did so well in the NES years was because of their unfair business practices, nothing to do with any kind of innovation. The SNES did nothing to innovate the industry and for that matter neither did the N64 or Gamecube.
The lynx was inferior to the gameboy since it was less portable, the most important feature in a portable.
It does indeed have the best good to bad ratio of any console, but it doesn't have any really great games.
