Mortal Kombat - Genesis vs. SNES
It appears nobody has compared MK yet, so here goes my attempt. Let me know what you think.
Mortal Kombat
Case C
MD version (Probe Software, 1993, 16Mbits):
Attachment 8749
Attachment 8752
Attachment 8754
Pros:
-Blood and uncensored Fatalities are present with a code (enter ABACABB when you see screen number 2).
-Music is arguably better.
-Attract mode and ending are more arcade-accurate.
-Controls are much more responsive and more faithful to the arcade original.
-Higher resolution. It doesn't make much of a difference, but it is nice to have an extra 64 pixels horizontally.
Cons:
-Animation is choppy.
-Color counts are much lower than the SNES version.
-Sound effects are poor.
SNES version (Sculptured Software, 1993, 16Mbits):
Attachment 8755
Attachment 8756
Pros:
-Graphics are more detailed and colorful.
-Sound effects are better.
-Animation is smoother.
Cons:
-There's no blood. The Fatalities have also been edited due to Nintendo of America's censorship code.
-Music is much poorer quality.
-Attract mode and ending have been edited (instead of showing screenshots or unique animations like the Genesis/arcade, it just re-uses the game sprites).
-Controls are HORRIBLE. They are sluggish and unresponsive.
-Hit detection is questionable.
-Way more difficult, in a bad way.
-Lower resolution.
Verdict: MD. Overall, it's a better representation of the original arcade game, and it's more fun.
