I've thought the same about the Dreamcast. I always thought it was unfair to compare the DC to the xbox, GC, and PS2. It just didn't last long enough to fairly compete with mid to late gen games of the console era. I do tend to view the DC as a sort of bridge between the 5th and 6th gen.Quote:

Well, the first generation consoles are also consoles. In my opinion the engineers that made them are true geniuses as they had to deal with discrete logic. Sure, graphics are simplistic, but they are videogames.

1st Gen - I'm sorry I'm not that old.
2nd Gen - Atari 2600: My first console. Some of the other choices might be "better" but none are as important to me.
3rd Gen - NES: My second favorite console of all time after the Genesis. This is primarily the system I grew up with.
4th Gen - Genesis: Why even ask?
5th Gen - Playstation: Most of my favorite games from the generation were on the PC but if I had to choose a console it'd be the Playstation.
6th Gen - Gamecube: Because I consider the Dreamcast to be sort of 5 1/2. it's got qualities of both generations and appeared between them.
7th Gen - Nintendo DS: Lots of great old-school style games on the go. The Castlevanias and such. I don't even own any other modern consoles. Gaming got too expensive and time consuming to keep up with.

No love for the 1st gen of consoles? Typical of everyone to forget about the one that brought them to the dance.
The Odyssey was awesome for its time. Especially when you consider your other home entertainment options back in those days.
I prefer the Vectrex over any of the Atari's and Colecovisions. Small library of games that are pretty nice for their time.
For 8 bit, right now I'm on a 7800 trip. Nice backwards compatability with 2600 games, and overall just kind of new to me. I had never really ever heard of it, or played it until not too long ago. Pretty neat little system, even though it's controllers are terrible. I like the Master System, but I just have too much nostalgia for the NES. The controller, and the games like Punch Out, Mario 3, Castlevania III, and Mega Man II. It's hard to beat that. I will admit that the SMS was indeed the much more powerfull system, just didn't get enough good games.
16 bit is a no brainer. I consider the Genesis/CD/32x to be one unit. I know the 32x was technically classified in the next gen, but you can't play it without a Genesis, so any way you slice it up, it's still a Genesis. I've never played a TG-16 or a PC Engine, but from what I've seen I would probobly like it more than the SNES if I had. The SNES is great to me for a few games, but I don't really like RPG's, especially the SNES brand of RPG's, so I'm not perticularly fond of the system's slow, censored brand of games.
Saturn and Playstation are close for me, leaning towards the Saturn right now. I have only about 3 games keeping me from selling off my entire 64 collection in a lot on Ebay. Everything is just so overhyped about it, and I really don't like the controller for most games.
As much as I want to say Dreamcast, I just cant. The ps2 just has way too many good games, even though it is the most inferior hardware of the generation. I also really like the original Xbox, not as much as the DC though. Not too much of a fan of the Gamecube, but I do think it was an improvement for Nintendo over the 64.
The way Microsoft abandoned the original Xbox, combined with the RROD debacle, I won't be giving the Xbox 360 a chance. I would like to have one for the exclusive DLC like Radiant Silvergun, but I'll go with the PS3 for my current gen gaming needs. The Wii is a very nice secondary console, with quite a few console exclusive throwback 2d style games, which I really like. The Wii is easily Nintendo's best console since the NES.

1st Gen - None, I've played the Oddessey2 once. That's about my experience with this Gen.
2nd Gen - Vectrex
3rd Gen - NES
4th Gen - Sega Genesis/Sega CD/32x (On it's own though, I'd pick SNES over Genesis)

6th Gen - Gamecube
7th Gen - I don't like any of the systems from this Gen!
