How many were there ?
Very few. "Mischief Makers" is the only one that comes to mind, and it's pretty good, Treasure made it.
One of the reasons that the system is one of my least favorites of all time. Nothing but fugly, early era 3d games, and a shitty controller. Madden Classic mode in Madden NFL 2002 is 2D. A direct port of the Genesis game(93) as a matter of fact.
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber
Bangai-o (Japan only)
The console was poor for 2D games, it just wasn't mad for 2D nor was it pad
How do you get Madden Classic on Madden NFL 2002 on the N64??
Mischief Makers was 2d.
Everyone goes on about that game, have people actually played it ? or just going on youtube or emu's ? The game runs in a tiny window for starters and the parallax scrolling on the clouds is worst than that in most MD or Snes games, The game is not a 2D showcase at all .The machine may well have been able to do 2D, but it was totally outclassed by the Saturn and PS
I'm with you on this one. I really disliked the awkward early 3D era which is why there's only a handful of games the N64 that I really enjoy.
And like you said, that controller... ugh.
As for Mischief Makers I never really got all of the praise for it. It's interesting I guess but it doesn't really look all that swift and when I finally got around to getting a physical copy of the game a few years ago I was pretty disappointed in it. That's coming from a Treasure fanboy too.
I always thought it would've been interesting to see Neo-Geo games ported on the N64 and some CPS2 games. I don't get why Capcom even bothered to port this game to the SNES when they could've ported it to the N64.
Yoshi's Story, Paper Mario, Puzzle Bobble 2 ("Bust-A-Move 2"), Magical Tetris Challenge, probably others
It's available from the start of the game, you don't have to unlock it or anything. The team colors and roster numbers were changed to the 2001 rosters, except for the Houston Texans, which retained the Madden 93 Houston Oilers colors and roster, which is totally fucking awesome!
Best 2d game on the 64 for sure.
It's one of the gameplay modes, just cycle through them and Madden Classic will be there.
Easily forgotten, rightfully so, but Mortal Kombat Trilogy is also on the list.
I liked Mischief Makers a lot because its gameplay was very intuitive for me. Grabbing, shaking, and throwing objects was just a lot of fun for me. The graphics weren't too bad in my opinion, but its the gameplay that drew me to this game pretty much.
Ogre Battle 64 is also awesome, probably my second or third favorite strategy title ever (storyline is fantastic too).
Wonder Project J2 looked nice for a 2D title, but I still agree that Saturn and PS1 seemed to function better with 2D than the N64 overall.
3D was truly the N64's strength however.
