There are many game controllers/controller peripherals that have been released for the Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis; officially licensed controllers, turbo controllers, arcade sticks, a motion-based controller peripheral (I'm not kidding), the list goes on and on. Which controller/controller peripheral do you prefer to play Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis video games with?
I like the original 3 button. Great size and shape. Amazingly solid d-pad. Great buttons. I use it for any game that doesn't need six buttons and for my Atari 2600.
I use the original 3 button pad instead of the 6 button pad for games that don't require the use of the X, Y, or Z buttons. Back in the day, one of my friends did have a 6 button arcade stick (one that was officially licensed by Sega) and used it from time to time on certain games, and also had a Sega MD/Gen light gun that didn't work for some reason.Quote:

Original six button all the way.
All I remember is that the light gun was colored blue. Years ago, I went to my friend who had the six button arcade stick and the light gun to see if they were still there. We eventually found the arcade stick and it still worked, but the light gun was nowhere to be found.
I use Sega's official six button arcade joystick. It controls like a dream with all games especially the Street Fighter II series. I can even play games like Forgotten Worlds by switching to the three button format. Overall, it really helps bring home the arcade feel especially when playing the many arcade ports the Genesis has.
Original Six Button I got one as a little kid and had a hard on because it was so comfortable. It's a joke Sega never packaged these with consoles and made them the standard in North America.
More buttons, smaller controller, more comfortable, better d-pad = win
I usually use the original 3-Button Genesis pad, but I use the 6-Button pad for games that require it. When it comes to an original 3-Button controller with a comfortable D-pad, the ones made in China are the best, and feel almost identical to the original 6-button controller's D-pad. The other original 3-button controllers I've used were made in Taiwan and Malaysia, and their D-pads weren't as comfortable as the one that was made in China.
i like the original 6 button the best. the teeny tiny turbo 6 button wasnt bad either, just a lil small in my adult hands.
when i was a kid, i used to love these crappy nady genny 6 button pads. couldn't find a pic, but i loved those things. i got 2 from big lots for like $5 each back in tha day.
I've had my Genny setup with the original 6-button pad for as long as I can remember. It has never let me down (except that time when the mode button broke, but that's ok, I've gotten many replacements since, and the truth is that one could always go with the flawless 6-button pad with which the model 3 came. Now, that's a controller!).

I have one of those, and one of the original 6-button. I prefer the feel of the original 6-button. When it comes between the original 3-button and original 6-button, I like both. I use whichever is nearest, unless the game requires the 6-button.Quote:

I'm in the three button controller camp. It has a better feel than the six. I recently got a pair of the Sega six button wireless pads. They do fix the problem of my kid jerking the controller out of my hands and locking up the system.
What's funny is my three button pad looks like absolute hell. I disassembled it and scrubbed everything down. I still prefer it over a brand new (wired) six button pad. I need to see if I can get some new three button pads.
Three-button that came with the Genesis model 2. Great ergonomics and buttons are nice and responsive. I find the 6-button (original and Majesco variants) too small and awkward to hold.
