Just bought a Neo Geo CDZ!

I gotta get pics of my game room up.

I have a:

Big Red 4 Slot 25" Monitor with 2 headphone jacks AND working Memory card reader
U.S. AES with the latest Bios chip with built in cheats.
A Top Loader with like 4 games (Sold my CDZ)
A SNK Arcade Classics Mini with upgraded U.S. Happ Controls (much better then the chinese shit they have.
MAS Arcade stick.
JAP21 to Component converter for that proper RGB Picture, it is flawless on my TV, it's amazing.

FYI Neo Geo RULES...

That makes me jealous - there was this guy on CL a month ago that was selling not one, not two, but THREE NG MVS cabinets for 750 total! Unfortunately, he never replied to my e-mails, which was part of the reason I bought the CDZ (along with it's condition and rarity). Maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to have a MVS in my loft, but for now, I'll take the CDZ. :)

It makes me jealous seeing a stack of AES carts, all in one place. Sure most of them aren't that great, but come on, it's the AES! It makes every Neo game seem awesome. My MVS carts aren't as pretty looking... :(

But hey, at least I can have a full set of Metal Slug without selling a kidney. :D (I plan on buying an AES anyways, when money is in different standings... And when I can find one for a good price)

If you do buy an AES, I recommend you build your own controller. I had my MVS before I got my AES, and I was extremely disappointed with the AES controllers. I have both the original model controller, and the new-model joystick they came out with around the time the CDZ was released. Both have adequate joysticks (the original is better) but the buttons are mushy. It feels like the Sega 6-button arcade stick, mainly because the buttons don't use microswitches.

There's a small problem with your advice here... The Neo AES (and every Neo system for that matter) uses deep DB-15 ports, instead of the more common shallow type. There isn't really any way to make a custom controller without cannibalizing an original Neo stick or an extension cable. Shallow plugs may still hold in the deep style ports, but not very well.

I do in fact have some custom sticks I made for my Supergun. They aren't very high quality, but I don't mind. The buttons aren't microswitched, but I like em just the way they are. It's easy to tap the buttons quickly, making stuff like Metal Slug or Ninja Commando much easier to play. I'd probably still buy an official Neo stick or two... Maybe one with new buttons... Or perhaps just get an unmodded one so I get the true Neo-at-home experience few enjoyed back in the 90s. :D

I actually have more, but those games are VERY good and are U.S. and were NOS, so yes they quite rule, I also have a stack of MVS stuff too....

It sure does. I just noticed you had a MAS joystick shaped in a Neo Geo setup. Did MAS custom make it for you, or do you know of a place where someone can grab that design at will?

The arcade stick does indeed have mico switches, you must have had some haggared sticks mine are immaculate. That Sega 6 button stick is Dog Shit, teh AES sticks are very good but feel small after playing the MAS stick which is all I use. I even lent it to Classic Game Room to Review, check it out..

That MAS arcade stick is an off thelf item that was made by MAS which made a nice Super Gun setup, they did the same for Capcom setup and so on.


They Also reviewed my CDZ and some games I sent them. Maybe one day I'll send them my AES.

You misunderstood - the joysticks do have microswitches, but the face buttons do not, on either the original or the new-style joysticks.

EDIT: As for MAS - their superguns are indeed great! I had a MAS Supernova built for me by the former owner of the company earlier this year and I love it. I think I might hit him up and see if I can get a stick like that, as my sticks is set up in a Street Fighter setup with an all black-and-yellow color configuration.

He actually has a shop set up on ebay now under the name atarigalaxy3000. he builds each supernova by hand now and it takes 30 days for them to be built after an order is placed.

Last I checked (a few days ago) he was still selling custom-made supernovas.

EDIT: I'd totally vouch for him, though. After I placed my order, he maintained quick and courteous communication, and the packaging it was shipped in was high quality, including a wooden frame in the box to make sure it wouldn't get crushed. I had heard horror stories about MAS Supernovas shipping in terrible condition, so the care in which it was shipped surprised me. He will also install additional mods on your supernova for a fee - I had him place a 720p upscaler and VGA out on my supernova for $75.

Mind you, I'd LOVE for Riding Hero to be a good game, but it just isn't...

It's really, really easy to replace the buttons in an old style stick with Sanwa or Seimitsu 24 mm buttons. Old style sticks with Seimitsu buttons are my preferred controller for the system now. (and I do have a MAS stick.)

Yeah I've seen all sorts of cool mods out there, from light up buttons to replacements. If I ever do that, however, it's gonna be on a brand new pair of joysticks, so I can have a couple of original models as well.

I can understand that. I'm really picky about my sticks too, I just happened to be lucky enough to have an AES stick that felt brand new (even if it looks like crap.) I think it was someone's P2 controller.
