Hi there! About to order my first SCART cable to use via my 32X...
What is the difference between these two cables? The one is the "Raw Sync" version and costs a dollar more.

I'll be running it through a SCART>Component convertor featured in a different thread a few down. Model 1 Genny, so I'll be using the stereo headphone jack into my Sega CD and back out to my tv for audio.

I think raw Sinc is referring to the direct C-cync line on the MD/genesis AV port. Normal SCART cables use the composite video line as sync on SCART (or merge C-Sync and composite video), but this can lead to some artifacts (like pale vertical lines -or the bigger issue of some PAL TVs displaying both composite and RGB at the same time).
However, "raw" c-sync can also have the problem of being too weak for some TVs/monitors (especially if the cable doesn't add more buffering), but I'm not sure on the details of those issues. (especially in the context of using RGB=>YPbPr adapters)
One problem with the model 1 Genesis/MD is that the sync signal on the AV out is actually wired up to the sync input on the CXA1145. I had a problem with my Japanese Mega Drive through RGB on my Sony PVM where the screen would roll if there was a flash of white. I was able to fix the issue by wiring up the sync pin to the sync output on the CXA and all was well after that.Quote:

I have a 40" Panasonic Plasma tv. I use the Model 1 Genny (original version), with a Model 2 Sega CD and the 32X. Do you have any idea which cable would be best for me in my situation? I won't ever be using a Japanese system, or any kind of PAL tvs or systems. I just want my US games to have a better picture! Thanks!
Basically, the Raw Sync cable can potentially give you a better image quality, but it's a non-standard feature of SCART, so your TV/Component converter may not support it properly. The "normal" cable is the safe choice if you're in doubt.
Ah thank you! That makes sense. Hmm, a gamble eh? Is this "potential" image increase going to be vastly noticeable and superior? Or are we talking like, very slightly more vibrant colors or something? I don't need it to be perfect... I'd just like it to be better than composite.
Oh, cool, that's a really simple fix then (just cutting 1 trace and soldering 1 patch wire from the encoder to the AV port) . . . and then you'd just need to pull the composite video pin from the SCART cable (on the MD AV connector end) unless said cable already uses only c-cync.Quote:

Actually, it is a standard feature . . . it's just that the same pin on the SCART connector is used for c-sync (for RGB) and composite video. (and RGB SCART cables for most devices do exactly that)Quote:

Alright, so I wound up buying the standard scart cable, not the raw sync one. It just arrived today, and I hooked everything up along with that scart > component convertor that everyone was recommending on ebay a few threads down. The colors and all look great... but there are a ton of heavy vertical lines. They're really ruining the enjoyment of it. I never saw vertical lines through composite hook ups, but with the scart they are very noticeable. Using an original Model 1 Genny with a 32x and Sega CD. Any tips or ideas if anything can be done to fix these lines? Would the raw sync cable work better?
Can you post a pic? There is some vertical banding on some models of Genesis, but actual lines sounds weird. Try taking the 32x off and running it through your Genesis. You can plug the scart cable into the 32x model 1 adapter plug to make it work, and see if you still get the vertical lines.
Jail bars, right? Are they only noticeable on certain colors? My model 1 has that shit too. It's annoying, but there doesn't appear to be anyway around it. There's a thread about it here; it's about model 3s, but it's the same problem.Quote:
